Any information about the game?
« on: July 18, 2005, 02:07:16 am »
Since the server is down and can\'t connect...is there any good sites for information about the dungeons and things you can do in the game?  I\'ve read the main site but doesn\'t show TOO much about it.

Just some simple questions.

Number of dungeons
number of players
How full are the dungeons  *as in, is there a good size but still able to find things to kill, or are you waiting in lines with 30 other people to kill something*

Number of dungeons
1. i wouldn\'t call the areana a dungeon. and the road to oldiva(sp) really isn\'t a dungeon. the sewers is the closest thing that qualifies

number of players
depends on the time of day. i\'ve seen about 60 or so on occastion.

How full are the dungeons
pretty empty.
may laanx frighten the shadow from my path.
hardly because the shadow built the lexx.
the shadow will frighten laanx from my path.

Well I guess when I say dungeons I mean areas to level up or such in.  Just what options are there available for leveling and such?  Is this more mud like *and if so wich kind* or like other MMORPG\'S?

Leveling is bad, and evil, and nonexistant in PlaneShift. You increase your skills, not levels or class abilities. This is not a hack\'n\'slash game - PlaneShift\'s centerpoint is RolePlay. If you plan on running around trying to create an \'uber-stats\' character, you will be majorly disappointed. However, if you build a nice character history and personality and try to make your character act like him or herself, instead of like you, then you will be welcome.

I apologize for the harshness of my post, but this must be stated to clear up any misconceptions that may float around.

Heh well thats why I\'m asking. :>  There is very little documentation on what exactly the skills and such are, or what happens once you join the game.  And being down I can\'t go in and find out for myself.  Sounds like one of the muds I was in.

Okay then :D Yay! Or something. Hi! The skills that are trainable at the moment are basic stats (i.e., strength, agility, intelligence, etc.), mining, sword, axe, light armor, and I believe crafting will be available soon. So not much, but it\'s not that bad anyway. Once you join the game, you find yourself in the middle of Hydlaa city (with a temple, library, tavern, sewers, and dungeon available for exploration). Outside of the city is a magic shop, and a long path through green hills to another town, Ojaveda. You can find creatures to fight within the sewers, dungeons, hills, and in Oja city. Though many spawns are broken, and the ones that are working are usually heavily camped.

There will be a wipe \"soon\" to get rid of bugged accounts, exploits, cheats, etc., so players will have to start all over with the character creation process. For this reason, some choose not to indulge in skill training as much and stick to roleplay. Others don\'t care, however, and train away. Had to mention it nonetheless, just so it wouldn\'t be a huge surprise later ;)

But in summary, roleplay takes priority above everything else - in player behavior, naming rules, and chat - so this is important to remember when both naming your character, and talking to others - remember to use parentheses or brackets to denote OOC messages.

Either way, hopefully you\'ll get to try everything out for yourself before too long :)

Yeah definetly sounds like the other mud I was in.  What about death?  How does that work in here, do you get raised, or start in a temple?  Or is death more permanite here?

Upon dying, your character gets transported to the Death Realm, currently quite small and easy to get out of (challenges will be added in the future). Once you find the exit, the character is brought back to Hydlaa plaza. Nothing too fancy ;) You do not lose anything as of yet - no items, money, skills or points, etc - so the only inconvenience so far is the loss of time from running back and forth. Fear not, however, it will become more excrutiating later :3

There is no open PvP, by the way, as this seems to be a common question that follows. Players challenge each other to duels, and have the right to decline. Challenges are best kept to the Arena, however. Seeing people slaughter each other upon Hydlaa streets is rather awkward. There are guild wars, though - once two guild leaders accept, the guild members have freedom to attack anyone from the opposite guild at any time, no duel requests needed. That is the only form of \'open\' PvP available.

Heh well thats a good thing...:>  The last mud I was in that was like this if you died well...you were dead for good unless you had alot of gold, and were willing to take a MAJOR hit on stats.
