Why PS needs to have bathrooms.
« on: July 20, 2005, 08:24:11 pm »
PS needs bathrooms, to give the player that needs to go AFK:

1.  A reason within roleplay, to leave the discussion.
2.  A place to go while they are gone, eliminating the wordless statue in the room.
3.  Added realism and immersion in roleplay, bathroom break being the most common reason for AFK.

This would be a feature appropriate to any gathering place, tavern, pub, restaurant, guild hall, library etc.

Also, this would be a really easy and quick addition to implement.

Suggested location in the tavern, would be the rear of the lowest stair landing, perhaps with a sign reading: \"Used Ale\"

As one of the ladies, I hope this is created soon.

I was about to agree with you... until I realized we\'d need poorly maintained medieval-ish outhouses...  8o  um... do we really want to see that rendered?...  Though, as of yet we don\'t need to eat... so we wouldn\'t need bathrooms yet...   :P  But, the idea has potential, so I do think adding something like this might be useful.

Someone had the idea of AFKing making the character nod off and go to sleep.  We could extrapolate on this and have people go up to rooms in the inn for naps.

See what you get?

*sigh* If one commits the error of designing sewers has to deal with this consequences...

/me awaits for a new ecological guild to pop up claiming to keep the Hydlla rivers clean (because all that water in the sewers ends leading somewhere...)

I love the idea of this! :) It?s annoying if you run to the loo (IRL) and come back to find some poor person has spent a better part of their game trying to converse with you.

Great, so now we\'ll have to experience long lines in PlaneShift, too? ;)

Well, the bathrooms might get crowded.

But collisions are not implemented yet so it should not matter that much.
You can get any number of people (or other humanoids) inside a bathroom :D

Hum... and for those who dont want to have a bath?
(sometimes Im lost ... where is IRL? where is IC? -> its the mmorpg effects: the bath are only IC :D )

And if you dont want to be afk? For example : if you wanna sing while having a bath? eh its important for sure.

Under crowded conditions, once collision is turned on, lines will also add to the realism of roleplay.

And to our French romantic:
The second bathroom that also has a shower and bathtub, should be located upstairs near the bedrooms, of course.

french romantic ?

where ?

nice to see people here wanna live in a medieval world which loks like a perfect copy of our IRL world...

a bath a shower...

its hard to imagine people used to wash them in a little bac, in the river or in a public bath (like roman one)...

so... why wanting a personal shower or a personal bath ?

Im against because i finally find its against the rp... hygienic and cleaning system isnt very old...

My apologies, fken.

I assumed French, since that is your location.  I assumed romantic because you mentioned doing something besides bathing, or going AFK in a bathroom.

And I point out:
Any world that has fountains, sewers, fire magic and ice magic; also has sinks, toilets, hot baths and cold drinks.

Great idea, Verrlitt!

Though when I\'m away, for the time being I at least try to take the time to find a discrete location away from the fray to avoid being one of those \"statues.\"

My /away message: \"meditating...be back soon\"  I figure it works.  :)

I\'d also be interested in seeing a conceptual drawing of a medieval age bathroom, though this is a fantasy world (as you pointed out) and there certainly is levity to take some out-of-historical-context license.

Peace,

That doesn\'t mean the concept cannot be discussed, Ryan. In fact it is better to discuss such things now, before there is time to implement them, since this give the community plenty of time to tweak ideas to \"perfection.\" Frankly I think it would be an interesting addition.

I like the idea, though I agree it shouldn\'t be a priority. I think instead of just small bathrooms there should be bath houses like in Ancient Rome. That way it can actually serve a purpose more than AFK and be a place for communication, and bathing ofcourse.
