coward beasts hunting: rats psychological issues
« on: July 22, 2005, 11:20:29 pm »
Now Ill speak about psychological issues...

/me speaks with S. Freud prononciation  :D

no no im kidding.

I just think its strange to see a rat running at me trying to hurt me because only one hit is able to kill it and because it cant touch me...

I think it would be more interesting and more logical to see rats trying to run away... some kind of coward creature scared by newb... hum hum by hunters who are trying to kill them to sell their fur or eye...

so my request is :
   to increase the speed of the rats
+ to make they try to run away
+ a rat must give more money
--------------------------------------------------
= more funny hunting groups and more realism

EDIT : = a show for the old ps community member like us  :D

Do you really need that answered? The obvious thing is that it\'ll be an attempt to prevent further powergaming that does not belong in PlaneShift. It\'ll also be much more realistic to to include this behavior in animals, and the gameplay will be much more exciting when you are actually forced to hunt instead of find a just-barely-moving rat model to slash at.
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

yes, though it may be harder to make money on rats then I think it is a nice idea.

Rats really tend to run away unless there are tens or even hundreds of them.
Observer .. or watcher?

off course the price of the drop will have to be increased because people will be forced to hunt together and 7 trias shared in 5 parts... it wont be so exciting  :rolleyes:

Can everyone stop being so obsessed about the rats?! This game doesnt have to be a beat-em-up game starring a rat, that\'s only what it has become so far. THe game is under constant development, I\'m sure the rats will be less important in a while.

And yes, I agree that NPCs should have realistic behaviour. I also suggest having them spawn randomly within a set area, to avoid camping/farming. This way you would have to track them down instead of camping. It\'s called realism!

I don\'t think it is good to not do somethink because earning money would be harder because of that. Things should be changed if they would become more realistic and logical.
And so, I don\'t think so the value for killed rat should increase, as it is high already.

If we had economy made on stable pillars, similiar as it is done in real and few games, where people buy and sell things from eachother mainly, we wouldn\'t had to worry about the prices. These would automaticaly set with the supply and demand rule.

EDIT : and yes, it is great idea with running away rats and other weak animals. Full support from mine side

I personaly thought what could be nice would be to see people using their creativity to capture the coward creature together:
for example 2 persons run after the rats scarying it and 3 others try to be a kind of wall forcing rats to go in a way where there is no exit for it

R = scared rat
x = hunters
. = empty cell

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
x..................................x
..............R....................x
x..................................x
--------------------.................------------------------------------------
...................|.................|
...................|.................|
...................|.................|
...................|.................|
...................|.................|
...................-------------------

PS : odd2k youre odd : i spoke about cowardness and you tell me i only spoke about rats but... there is a problem : rats are the only creatures which are weak enough to run away like that and moreover dont forget its the newbees who are running after them... And then I think it\'s even still more scarying when it\'s a newbee...
Yeah newbees are the only one who try to give money or meal, saying \"hello\" and \"have you any quest for me\" before killing them...

My reply wasn\'t directed to anyone in particular, all I\'m saying is that there are many ways of fixing the economy so players won\'t have to \"camp the rat\" some hundred times before they can buy a sword.

I guess that was a bit off topic, I kind of forgot what the thread was about; Cowardly NPCs. I actually think it\'s a great idea to have weak NPCs run away from stronger players!
