Great Game BTW Looking forward to playing more and more and hopefully one day contributing.

Anyway, whats the possiblity of having a xmms plug-in to play tunes in game?  Not nocking the themed music it\'s great   but when you intend to play hours and hours of planeshift ;) I think it would be nice if you have the option to play your own songs .

I think this would be a great option for most games BTW

Maybe I haven\'t got my Ubuntu box setup properlly and you can actually do this (I\'m a linux newbie)

Hope this has the why factor suitably answerd

Agian, Great game look forward to the future

er...

whats wrong with just turning off the game sounds and then using a media player. Thats what i do with pretty much any game unless the sound is vital.

I dont think that this is an important feature there are muvh more important things that people need to be working on.
<Rux> i wish i could say that narrows it down, but the internet is one freaky place

Well, I just have iTunes running and cmd-tab between it and PlaneShift. Just remember to turn music off or things could get weird :|

EDIT: Beat by a minute, Drey ;)

Sorry Thats why I said I might not have my Ubuntu box set up properly :S
I still reckon in the late future, it would be a great plugin esp if you could get it to sync in with the game score (i.e Fade out at dramatic bits or duels etc  that\'d be kinda cool though not that important I agree
Thanks for the advice though

Well, you could put in your own .OGG files with the same names as the one\'s already in Planeshift, but you would still be restricted to those songs while playing. :/

I suppose, you could do that, but it isn\'t really what I was thinking about. Probably not feasible but more to do with the program tailoring songs to the scenes/situations in the game yet the song being independent of the game and selected by the user.

So for example, you had your collection of songs (in a playlist or some such thing) and the program, had a database or accesses one of the CDDB(tm) or another like it.  Then either by genre or artist or something else, organises your playlist to play through certian songs (part or whole their of) throughout the game either instead of, or also with, the actual score.

Ok! Now, You can tell me to shut-up  :D

A compressed sound format, much like MP3, but not patented.
At least it does not infringe any known patent so far, with patents you never know. Maybe somebody will patent storing sound data in computers or backround music in games ..

What program would be used to compress your sound files?

I believe that Planeshift should have its own music and it should be of a medivel style.  The developer\'s shouldn\'t waste there time implementing a feature that wouldn\'t be used very often and would do something as useless as listen to boybands while leveling up.

No offense or anything.  I am just providing constructive critisism.  I am just saying that it\'s something wouldn\'t be used very often or be very beneficial.  The time taken to program such a system would be better spent on something else and besides, you could simply turn off your sound and use a media player with a preset playlist.
RP Name: Vegoz
(pronounced \"vee-goes\" and although it ends in a z, it is a very soft z, to where it is bascially an s sound.)

Buddy, I couldn\'t think of anything better than wandering  around playing PlaneShift to the backstreet boys.

;D

Sure I see your point, as it is not an important aspect of the game, yeah yeah we\'ve made that point and I agree.

As for it not being used, I think you\' re making a rather large assumption based on the fact that people already mute the sound in game play music in a seperate application.

Why do that, if you don\'t have to; how cool would it be if you thought that \"Ghey Musical Choice inserted here\"  would sound great whilst travelling from one area to another instead of \"unreal midi from game track, so please don\'t think I\'m knocking the soundtrack.ogg\"

It could also mean that people how aren\'t working on the game could prehaps make there own sound track but then I guess you could just insert the .ogg\'s but.. but..  what if you make heaps of sound tracks....

arhhuph I\'m over it, seemd like a good suggestion at the time :)

Makes sense to me to have a feature (yes I know, not important sense or even eventual sense but still some)

There is no real need to because the majority of people are able to flip between their music players and the PlaneShift program. I think there is a file that dictates what music is played in what area. I think you could change it so that more than one music file is played (and also the files of your choosing) but I haven\'t tried myself.

I love it!!! Gaming LARGER THAN LIFE!!!

So where can I find an .OOG converter... any suggestions?

As well I think this would be a worthwhile perk as a finishing touch (ie way down the road).

http://www.google.com

Find a .mp3 to .ogg converter program, and replace the files in your PlaneShift folder. Easy as that, and no point making a whole new program just for PS, which does exactly what so many other programs already do.
