Update Takes loads of time
« on: July 28, 2005, 05:12:51 pm »
Whenever I run the updater and it begins it starts downloading files like art/sewer.zip/469324g798f3tr873rgy8uf.ac and stuff and it takes really long, about 30 minutes its on 27% so I canceled it. How long is it suposse to take or is this normal?

What kind of errors, if I may ask?
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

Ah, thnx for ur concern :)

Well after I clicked on \'Join game\' it doesnt do what it is supose to. The world loads, but after awhile when its nearly finished it says it cant find DBGHELP.DLL wich is utter nonsense becouse it is there, along with the other Dll files in the planeshift folder. Then I get these guys:

Note: I tried to translate the error message , so this isnt the acual message as it appears just a poorly done translation:

Build Cast.exe application error
\'\'The intsuction on 0x004088eb failed to execute the \'\'written\'\' command on the memory 0x0000000\'\'
(or 0x0040d9be)

Blue Crystal (0.3.010) psclient.exe
\'\'The instruction on 0x00cea1b1 failed to execute the \'\'written\'\' command on the memory 0x000002cf0 yada yada\'\'

basicly Build Cast.exe and Psclient.exe mess up.

Ah well :( u dont know how to fix this either, do you.. Ah well :(

I love your signature.

First of all you\'ve to solve this warning about a dll missing, probably, it\'s a corrupted file.
Try this, move the file from your planeshift directory to the desktop, for instance. Then rerun the updater, it should notice it missing and download it again. Hopefully this time it will be a correct download and you\'ll launch the game without problems.
Post the new message errors.

Note to members: Mentioning the \'\'plain poo\'\' signature here.

Still, after downloading a \'\'in-corrupt\'\' dbghelp.dll, it is trying write on some memory but fails and stuff.  :S *frustrated*

EDIT: Oh! And now it even stops ont that first loading schreen! C++++++++ Visual Library! *whine* Something unexpected happend! Windows is surprised! psclient.exe did something weird. Will shut down now!

And what ddwin.exe?? It doesnt work well, thats for sure.

About the errors messages then:

The first one, related to build cast.exe. I honestly don\'t remember any exe like this in planeshift folder (assuming you\'re running windows, because in another thread you make me understand you don\'t use linux, and if you were using mac you\'d have posted this in mac forum) so I can\'t help with that.

As for the error in psclient.exe.

Go to the planeshift directory and erase the psclient.txt file, after that, relaunch the game and save the dump file it will prompt you to create. After that, send it to http://command.no-ip.com/dmp/ hopefully your problem will be debugged.

Yes, he\'s using windows, because his files are .exe and that\'s the extension used by windows.
About your problems, I think PS is simply corrupted, try re-downloading the package from the PS website and re-install it. About the other files like cast.exe and ddsomething.exe, I don\'t think they\'re PS files, maybe you should consider a virusscanner? Apparently something is corrupting all those files.

edit: I did some searching on those processes and it\'s not looking good. Ddghelp.dll is a file related to windows itself and cast.exe is mentioned on many websites as spyware or a virus.
