Hardware acceleration
« on: August 03, 2005, 12:30:38 pm »
When I start planeshift I see a message in top of the screen about hardware acceleration or something. I can\'t try the game to see if the game is working normal, because the server was offline due to the next updates. Should I do something about that message or leave it for what it is?

Well, since we have no idea what that message was, we can\'t offer any help. I assume the message you saw was bad in some way?

The message was:

crystalspace.canvas.openglwin
No Hardware Acceleration!

It seems to be related to the videocard. It\'s a Nvidia GeForce4 Ti 4400 from Microsoft Corporation

Try updating Nvidia. Lemmie get a link, it might fix your problem.

To: Everyone, this download page has downloads for both Nvidia and ATI. So I recommend you download.

You may not have hardware acceleration enabled, so try going to control panel and open display properties. Go to \"settings\" and then click \"advanced\", then go to \"troubleshoot\" and make sure the slider for hardware acceleration is all the way on.

He said he is using Microsoft drivers, which dont have D3D support. He needs to download the latest from nVidia.

Well, I still have a problem. Now I tried to play PlaneShift on our second computer (Win \'98 ), but there I got the same message. I downloaded the updates from Shasta Soda, but those didn\'t work. Then I checked the site from the ATI (on this computer I have an ATI video-card) for the newest update, but that one didn\'t work either. What should I do now?

By the way, it\'s an ATI Rage II+

I dont believe the rageII+ has the 3d acceleration that planeshift needs. That is a very old video card. There are very very cheap video cards on the market that would help you maybe a mx4000 by nvidia that comes in both agp and pci flavors.

 Hope this helps,

That\'s too bad, I don\'t think my father is going to buy me a good video-card while this computer only has 128 MB RAM with 260 MHz processor. There are many more points to improve, and this one stands low on the list. How much do you think it is for a cheap video-card?

Well, I just saw an Nvidia Geforce 4 MX for about 50 dollars. That videocard runs practically every game, including Doom3, Half-Life 2 and Planeshift. Only Battlefield 2 doesn\'t work because it doesn\'t support Shaders 1.3. But you\'ll still need a fast CPU and lots of memory for PS to work. I have a GF 4 MX too, but PS doesn\'t really play fast on my pc, becaues I only have 800 mhz.
