Thinking of installing PS...
« on: August 04, 2005, 04:26:22 am »
Hello. I am thinking about downloading PS, and i have many questions. You see, I also play Guild Wars and I love almost every aspect about it, except for the lack of multiplayer feel, because whenever you venture out into the wilderness you are on your own server. So, here are my questions:

-is it buggy? Have their been and reports of viruses entering one\'s computer while playing/installing?
-does it have an multiplayer feel? Are there many multiplayer options that exceed the boundaries of other games?
-are there a lot of quests?
-does it have an in-depth story?
-are there as many wipes/updates as there seems to be? Does it put your account progress in jeopardy (sp)?

Please, answer some of my questions, for I have checked many review websites, but none seem to have this game in its archives.

Thanks.

as much as I have heard, and a player of GW, I think this will blow it out of the water!

i don\'t have much to say.. because i feel that you are comparing apples and oranges..

you can\'t really compare PS with any other game.. it has a wonderful community, a great sense of RP, great graphics, a hard-working dev-team, and unlimited potential.

as for specifics, i will give none because the game is being updated as we speak.. many things will change.. if you are curious.. i suggest installing the game.. you can always uninstall anyway, right?

Buggy: yes.  Dangerous or insecure: no.  The bugs planeshift has are mostly graphical or problems with gameplay.  This game is still in development and this is bascially a \"tech demo\" meaning that your just playing the game while its still being made.  You test the game and report any bugs to the developers.  Despite being in development, its still a very enjoyable game with a great community!

Depends on what you mean by \"multiplayer feel\"... it IS an MMOG afterall.  You can join guilds and chat with other players among other things soon to come.

Not yet, but they are adding more.  The reason as you might have guessed is that the game is still in development.

Yes it does.  Check out this link.  Use the links on the left of this page to view different sections and learn more about the history of planeshift and how the world operates.

Wipes happen every so often.  There is no regular basis for them, but they come as needed.  Sometimes it will ruin your progress and other times not.  Usually updates dont require wipes.  But like I have said, this game is NOT finished and no where does anyone claim it to be a complete game.  The game might be released to the public but that doesnt mean its done; it is released so that it can be tested and what parts of the game are done, can be enjoyed.

Have fun, and enjoy Planeshift! ^_^

when you say \"released to the public\", do you mean that it may one day have a monthly fee or i may have to buy it one day to avoid losing my progress?

nope.. the one part you won\'t have to worry about is that \"Planeshift will always be free\".

when you download and install the game, i suggest you read the planeshift guide. it is incredibly informative and yet gives nothing away. also, reading around the forums is a good way to see what is going on with the game and such..

yes.. you can challenge a person to a duel.. and if they accept, then you duel.

but it is not recommended that you go and spam duel everyone you see.. there are certain places where dueling is not allowed.. such as the tavern.  some are trying to get the main plaza relatively free of dueling, but that is no easy task.

Well I played it when it was just made public on my old comp and there was really nothing... and now the server is down when I try to see what on now. But from what Ive gathered, it is much more full now and wipes happen as needed but as the game progresses there will be less and less wipes.

If you really wanna play for real and progress you could wait till the game is at least in beta, but if you\'re just wanting to have some fun, sure there is no risk in downloading it and playing a bit.

I admire the determination to keep the game free to players. Juding from screens the quality is excellent. If you guys keep to your mission statement of remaining free, this could become the most popular game the net has ever seen.
