Planeshift Icon
« on: August 04, 2005, 03:33:18 pm »
So since psclient.exe and updater.exe didn\'t have an Icon and I wanted to contribute something, I whipped up this here icon, in hopes that is would be officially used as the PS icon!  :D

Ok that\'s my hope but feel free to use it anyone... :P

http://www.thedragonpeak.com/userfiles/admin/planeshift2.ico

And here is the PNG of the icon, for preview purposes.. the gem is actually slightly translucent, BTW. It won\'t look right in  IE because IE does not support PNGs! Stupid microsoft.. X(

Its big for when toolbars enlarge em and stuff.. When used it will be resized like normal automatically by the OS.

Very nice job!  Good idea on using the crystal from the logo, looks pretty cool.  I\'m sorry to say though that Planeshift already has an icon.  You might have missed it for some reason but if you look again you\'ll notice they have a little icon that says \'PS\' on it.

Still a nice job though and its glad to see someone making an icon thats actually in the .ico format.  You\'d be surprised how many times I\'ve seen people submit icons for other things (not planeshift) and end up submitting a jpeg.
RP Name: Vegoz
(pronounced \"vee-goes\" and although it ends in a z, it is a very soft z, to where it is bascially an s sound.)

Try putting some letters in there like \"PS\".

But alas the linux version doesn\'t come with an icon. So I\'ll use this one.

Hmm.. PS Yeah I suppose that would be nice but then when made small on the desktop and stuff the letters would get all hard-edged and small.. I could give it a try

Does linux use icons? Isn\'t it just.. code or something sry I Don\'t use linux much   But yeah sure. :D

Really? Planeshift has an icon? It doesn\'t appear in my folder..  ?(

Thanks  :D

Whoah. Dang I was slightly wrong :P It actually looks a bit like a mac..

Is linux nice? other than then the fact that there isn\'t as much software support as windows..

with linux and mac you get less viruses and crashes. But the downside for both is that they dont get much program compatability. Because the game makers are too lazy to make a newer version. But with Planeshift, this is not the case.

Yep shasta is right.  And while the mac probabily gets a few more native ports of applications than windows does, linux ends up a little better off with its wine/cxoffice/cedega products, which allow the user to run most windows applications on linux without any performace hit.  As you can see in my screenshot I have Worlds of Warcraft working in linux and for some reason its performance is actually better than in windows on the same machine.  This isn\'t always the case though.

Really? It runs better on linux.. well it may be all the not-working-too-well windows firewall and the nasty 100 programs win xp has running at all times.. :P

Ubuntu? What? One of the windows on that guys screen?

Ubuntu is a linux distro.  Like windows linux comes in various flavors. Windows has flavors like windows 3.11 windows 95/98, windows ME (Mistake) windows 2000, and windows XP.  Some of these also have srver versions and there are several versions of \"windows NT which is supposed toi be a more stabile server oriented windows.  It also forms the base of windows 2000 and XP.  Linux comes in flavors called \"Distros\"  You may have heard oif Red Hat, or SuSE. These are larger comercial versions.  Ubuntu is a flavor of linux which is desktop oriented.  LInux comes in literally thouseands of flavors tailord to your specific needs.  Its a bit like shopping for a car.  You buy  a sports car if it suits your needs.  Similarly, you wouldn\'t buy a small car if ou needed to haul a trailor.  Similarly different linux distros are tailored to specific needs.  Windows has 2 main flavors in reality.  Home and Server.  Home is a general flavor based on filling everyones basic needs.  Server Windows is what it sounds like.  With windows XP they also released a pro version which was intended at hitting the major workplace environment.

And that one doesn\'t show up either  :D  Try imageshack.. ( http://www.imageshack.us )

Ahh yea I know about RedHat, my host uses that on its servers. So that would be the more advences code kind right? Then Ubuntu is a desktop.. Wow that\'s quite cool mabye I SHOULD get a double boot..  :))

No idea how this changed into a linux discussion thread but :P

I\'m afraid that that was my fault.  I mentioned that the linux version had no icon, so I decided to use it, then someone mentioned they didn\'t know linux used icons... so it began....and myself personally on a quest to figure out why his one screenshot won\'t work!  One MORE TRY!
