This is to all the newbies out there, it seems with 3.011 and \"Crystal Frozen Blue\" we have many new people.

Yes, the Server is back up, but the Mac Client has not been finished yet

Let me explain: The game is designed for PCs, so when a new client (this one is 3.011) is built, the PC users are able to immediately update when the server is finished updating. Macs use a different code than PCs, so we have to wait for Dfryer (the resident mac guru) to re-write the PC code so it works for the Mac.

He may take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to do this, it depends on the new client and how many changes there are.

So, the client will not work on the mac, yet.

Please be patient, Dfryer is doing all this for free. Athough I am sure he will welcome cash, cheque, money order, paypal, a dual 2.7 ghz power G5 or your souls, I don\'t think this will make him get it done any faster either. Patience.

Thanks for your attention, I too hope it gets finished soon.

Thanks Dfryer for all your hard work, I look forward to the new client.

as a point of fact the code is the same for mac and PC (or rather, the mac specific code has already been written into the Crystal Space engine, and the planeshift code is the same for mac/pc), dfryer has to *build* the mac client, which, if everything is working, should NOT take weeks. what happens is that dfryer is busy and the code generally breaks on the mac half the time and requires patches, which do take weeks.

Judging from a recent OSX build of CS as of cvs one hour ago, which crashes walktest on startup, I\'m guessing it will take a while.

[edit: I mean breaks on the mac here to mean that bugs in the code are exposed on the mac]

Kill rats? *tut tut*

I want to kick back in front of the fire in Kada-El\'s with a couple of guild mates and spin some yarns about my explorations of The Stone Labrynth. :)

Thanks for all the work you put into this Dfryer...I\'m grateful to have had the chance to play Planeshift at all, so waiting for a week or two won\'t kill me :D

You\'ll be happy to know that there are bugs in the current release, including zone-changing bugs, shortcuts firing while chatting, and several others. In other words, PS probably isn\'t that much fun to play right now anyway. In addition, the random loot generator is also a bit broken (i.e. rats drop varying falchions all the time). In short, you\'re not missing much.

The above information courtesy of a nice IRC chat. ;)

As much as I completely worship Dfryer for being able to translate the PC code into mac code, it seems like I haven\'t played PS for a year. I started following the scene around 0.3.006, when I downloaded it from apple.com and it immediately crashed on startup. Then, I downloaded 0.3.009 a while later, and played it until they updated the server. When 0.3.010 was released, I was sure to download it, only to find that the Laanx server didn\'t work, and now it\'s incompatible. Despite the talk of bugs, I think it\'s great that DFryer and all the PS team are out there to create a Freeware, Opensource MMORPG with no monthly fees.

Oh?... That was what it was called at Kada\'s Tavern Site on a news update. Suppose information gathered there may always be a bit sketchy. It was posted by Cad. Hmmmm.

I agree with you ChaOs, it seems that the world is really whacked at the moment. I worry though that newbies will be more powerful than me when I get back, from them earning thousands of tria in a go, then training. Maybe we need a second wipe when the mac client is up. Yeah, wishful thinking.

P.S. Mr. Sandman, we\'d love you to join us here, just keep checking the forums, I hope Dfryer will get it done soon.

They need a second wipe anyway. People with thousands of trias from the falchion-dropping rats have a huge advantage. :\\
