Linux installer for Planeshift version 3.011 ready for tests.
« on: August 06, 2005, 02:56:38 am »
Linux client update had been finally relased. The only download mirror, at the
moment, is http://planeshift.xpam.de/ full package (with art) will be
relased shortly after successful tests of these.

The major change, by my side, is removing multiple libraries which were
shipped with the installer. So if you get an error about some shared object
which cannot be found, paste the name of it in Google and it will tell you what
package to install. I think shipping these libs, which most of people has in their
systems, is waste of performance and bandwidth. It is consequence of work
to remove all unnecessary files from the Linux installer which is one of my
major priorities.

Do not report problems in this thread, for howto report them see another
pinned thread on this forum, also keep an eye on FAQ and Known problems
threads.

Good luck with the installer and have fun!

Second update for Linux x86 relased.
« Reply #4 on: August 15, 2005, 06:28:18 pm »
I think few major bugs had been fixed. Full package should be later today or
tommorow (if there will be no problems). Same goes for x86_64 packages
since there are no bigger problems with them.

Package is available at http://planeshift.xpam.de/ along with
sources it was compiled from and an updated build howto. Enjoy.

Will try to update later today.
Cheers!  :))

edit:
Used the PlaneShift_CBV0.3.011.linux.x86-UPDATE2.run updater.
A few problems getting it to work. (finally moved my existing ps install and then just added the art to the \"new\" install)
Looking good. Better than 3.010.
OpenAL seems to be working, no crashes so far. Its good to finally have the sound working. :))
Updater had a nasty thing about openssl being missplaced and all   but was easy to find the solution here on the forums. Also the graphical part of the updater also seems to be working nicely.
pssetup is very nice now, much better this one :]
Forgot my chars name so starting over with an enchanter. many rats litle loot, explored a bit looking for shrooms found one. Have no mining skill. Items, (new ones) found an apple (am i suposed to eat it?) bugged models ( droped items modeled like dwarfs - lots of these) Got boring, disconnected.
Any suggestions for a guy starting from scratch?  :baby:

edit2:
Code: [Select]
X Error of failed request:  BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
Major opcode of failed request:  4 (X_DestroyWindow)
Resource id in failed request:  0x2600004
Serial number of failed request:  202
Current serial number in output stream:  204

that\'s just wrong ?(
It sure doesn\'t exit gracefully.

Hallo,

thanks for your work.

The planeshift-31.07.05.tar.bz2 file should be named to
planeshift-31.07.05.tar.gz , because it\'s not a bunzip2 file i think.

Yes, you are right markus. I have fixed this now.
Anyway a small notice about Linux client progress - I have got a new CVS
code which seems to work and I was told two major issues are fixed there:
- Collisions in movement.
- Chat and key shortcuts bug.

So I will make a full installer from this UPDATE3 if it will work fine because
these issues are very annoying and I think everyone care to have them fixed.

i have tested the recently uploaded full installer (250 mb) for 3.0.11 and works fine.
The installer itself is a little weird (ncurses), but it works.
But the text of the link is wrong. It says 3.0.10 instead of 3.0.11. However, the link itself is right pointed to the 3.0.11 version.
So, it works fine under debian sarge native.
Thanks for that. :D  :D  :D

I have though that maybe i can host it in my web page. Is actually the final version of the 3.0.11 installer  or i should  wait a little more?

Link fixed. And about you hosting it, it generates alotof traffic. Anyway Talad
asked me to add a few things to the installer so soon there will be next
version available. Probably tommorow.

The 32 bits version text of the link is still 3.0.10, instead the 64 bits version is right now.
