The main issue I have besides not being able to run it because it never loads - no errror - just doesn\'t run.. is that the installer requires root privlidges.  I get utime: Operation not permitted errors.

The installer absolutely does NOT require root privileges, I always run it as a normal user, with no problem.

Of course you need to install in a directory where you have permission to do so.

When it crashes without any error, that\'s probably a segfault. Let us know the last messages you see (at least four lines) before it dies, and tell if you see the load screen and/or hear the startup sound.

Yes I did run the Updater for the art.

I\'ll try to describe what I see a bit better: when I start psclient I get the main planeshift window but its all black except for the blue progress bar at the bottom which progresses as normal, and the intro music too.

The logon screen then appears, again all black except for the words. But when words are overtyped, eg deleting the initial account entry with mine, the cursor backspaces but leaves the text letters in place and my new typing overwrites it. Also the \"Welcome to Planeshift\" logo leaves a trail of itself as it drops until its faded away. The yellow mouse cursor also leaves a trail as it moves.

If I enter my account and \"OK\". and it goes to the character selection screen, the rotating character platform appears, but there is still no background graphics. If I go \"New Character\" and select the races, they pop up on the rotating platform as they should, but again no other graphical background. The text of the previous character select and logon screens have simply been overwritten, e.g. the screen title becomes a crazy jumble of \"Login\", \"Character Select\" and \"Character Creation\".

Err... Help...

Dave

Thx 4 advice with removing pssound.*, after doing this my PS is functional, but after next update pssound.csplugin is loading again and I get next error:

DLERROR (/usr/share/planeshift/pssound.csplugin): /usr/share/planeshift/pssound.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
WARNING: could not load plugin \'planeshift.sound.soundmanager\'

planeshift.application.client:
  PlaneShift Crystal Blue
This game uses Crystal Space Engine created by Jorrit and others
  0.99 r0 [Unix-x86-GCC]
  No iSoundManager plugin!
  Failed to init app!

Just delete pssound.so and pssound.csplugin from the main directory again. The updater thinks those files are needed.

I hate to \"me too\", but this is exactly my problem.

The only thing I have not tried is installing .10, running the updater, running the .11 upgrade and then running the updater again.

The missing background problem is solved, it\'s not Linux-specific. You\'ll find the solution in \"Crystal Blue Problems/Bugs\", thread named \"black screens!!!!!!\"

Look for the post from Jorrit, it\'s two lines that need to be added to a config file.

As I mentioned on the other thread, try adding it to *both* files, there are two copies of that file on the Linux install, and I don\'t know which one it uses.

Thanks!

After experimentation, it\'s the \"planeshift/CS/data/config/r3dopengl.cfg\" file that needs changing.

Just so you all know!

With the updater the problem is the sound plugins, remove them an will run :)
