walking drains stamina ?!
« on: August 06, 2005, 04:42:28 pm »
Thinking of it, it is probably walking with load that drains it.

Anyway, I cannot get from the minig place to the Plaza without stopping. Perhaps walking the way instead of running would not be so draining- but autowalk does not work, at least I did not find any way how to activate it.

It is astonishing that while fighting or mining does not drain stamina (never got exhausted by that) walking does.

PS. Selling my pick - anyone wants it?

I have the same problem hramrach. When I walk full or empty, it drains stamina at the same rate as running. I have spoken with a GM and I gather from what was said, or not said, that it is a bug issue and there is no easy or immediate fix. So just hang in there you are not alone, and I am sure it will be resolved soon. The devs have a lot on their plate at the moment with the update and settling everything down. So do what I do....... run everywhere and then have a big rest.  8)

I don\'t think it\'s a bug. It\'s slower than running and in real-life walking would drain a small bit of energy.

No, it\'s definitely a bug.  Walking and running use about the same amount of stamina, per unit time.  It\'s actually less straining to run, at the moment...  :P

...a bug, walking draining stamina makes a lot of sense. Think about it, could you walk from New York to Boston, Calcutta to Delhi or Edinburgh to London without resting? Especially if you were carrying a large load? Being physically realistic is one of the great aspects I think Planeshift should try to achieve...

I think you will notice the difference if you run 10 miles or walk 10 miles. Walking will use some of your energy, but not as much as when you\'re running. Before the wipe, when I walked I recovered more engery then using it. That way you could walk from the plaza to the forest. Now you will use aswell with runing as walking the same amount of energy. That should be changed.

PS: I already have a pickaxe, just like nearly everybody. Keep it in case you want to mine again

If you want it REAL realistic, heres some food for thought:
I see theres an unused bar below the stamina thats always 100%. That will work.

SO people will have long-term and short-term energy. Running (more LT Stamina) and walking (less) Will nevertheless both consume the long term stamina. The LT stamina will run out much slower but will recharge much slower. The short term stamina will run out fairly quickly when running (based on endurance of course) but will recover when walking. And it will recover quite fast when stopped.

I can run and when I\'m tired I walk, then I can recover and run some more in real life. But yes If I walked to boston (I live in japan) I would get quite tired indeed long before I got there. :P

I will just complicate this post slightly to point out that combat does not seem to use any stamina just now... which is completely ridiculous.  If just WALKING uses up stamina, imagine jumping around and swinging a heavy weapon and warding off blows from an enemy.

Does anyone else sense that the system isn\'t yet fully \"thought out\" ?

there are other problems that the devs are working on right now that take precedence over the stamina bug. just bear with it, even though it doesn\'t seem logical.

Now that is a good idea, but in wich bar should mining be brought. And what about a very long fight or very short fight; The computer can\'t predict if a fight will dure long or short.
