probs with test update
« on: August 10, 2005, 10:29:15 am »
Hi
I have test the new 3.011 updater and ii crash.
First it says that i don\'t have the dialog program, so i install it from the debian sarge repository. I tried again and this time is says me that the dialog can\'t be created with those values.
After i have read in the forum that is a version problem of the dialog program.
I suppose is there a good reason to use that program (is the first time i see it), but maybe a loki installer could more quite more compatible(just an idea). By other way installing the new version of the dialog program is not a chance. My machine has debian sarge and is for a few peoople work so overwrite stable versions with \"up-to-date\" version is not a good idea.
I hope the full linux installer don\'t use that dialog program, or i couldn\'t play the game anymore...

The installer does use dialog, as did the previous version. If you had the previous version installed, you have seen dialog used before. And if not, how did you get the art? I have tried to convince Platyna to use the loki installer, but no luck. However, improvements are being made to the install script, that should make it work with other versions of dialog.

I also think the dialog program is a kind of bad dependancy, but I\'m not the one doing the builds, so its not my choice.  Were it my choice, I\'d say to go with autopackage instead of the loki installer as it is a little old and full of hacks.

why use a whatever graphical installer at all? a simple script with \"read x\" could doit, there are anyway only two things asked (installation folder and license agreement) and  the only dependency would be a shell.

just my 2-3 cents...

there is more to find than you can lose...

hmm, i always use terminal ./updater --auto , so i don\'t rememeber to have used that dialog... and as i said i didn\'t have installed it until this time.

If loki installer can\'t be, autopackage also can be a good alternative, i suppose.
Or if you want i can do in no time a gtk+(in the sarge stable version) dialog that return certain value according the button pressed (of course gpl). In other words a low dependancies clon of dialog program.

And if the dialog program must to stay, could be possible to get down the versionnumber, at least to the same that debian sarge , i suposse sarge is not too old...

Anyway, thanks for the updater and all the job you are doing.

The installer and the art-updater don\'t have anything to do with eachother. The installer installs the binaries, and the art-updater downloads the art.

If you ever installed Planeshift 3.010, you used the dialog-based installer. If you haven\'t played at all since 3.009, you didn\'t, since we got a new maintainer and new installer from 3.010.

Anyway, when the installer crash it lets a folder created. Inside there is the installer(setup.sh) and planeshit.tar.gz
I have decompress this tar.gz and overwrite the old planeshift folder but doesn\'t works. It says me that don\'t can use the opengl

UPDATED:
i have copied the older libXxf86vm files from the older Cal3d to the new lib folder and that problem is solved.
The seutp program start and when i have done the setup y try to launch, but it crash just after make the window.

hmmm, as i have read before it uses 100% of memory (the famous leak i suppose).
The framerate is good and the lighting is quite better than before.
Nice :D

Those with problems with libXxf86vm, let me guess, you are using Xfree not Xorg?

Okayish. Planeshift is linked against X.org. Anyway no worry, I will simply
include problematic libraries into package.
