As PS goes for more realism I think it should be possible for the players to have influence on the governing of cities and lands and even become leaders themselves.

Now I have looked at how the politiccal structure is described and think the Octarch story doesn\'t really fit in my eyes.

First of Yliakum is described as one great city with planes each governed by an octarch, but with things like Akkaio and the huge plains this doesn\'t fit.

I would therefor suggest the devs use more of a cityleader system where eventually even players can become ciityleaders. Where he can effect things like taxes and where the money is spend like on cityrenewall or the guards or cityexpansion.

Have a council below the leader to have more positions that can be looked at and get politics in the game. I think this would also increase roleplaying as to become a leader you must ofcourse be well known

Perhaps at first one should work with guilds, but later elections could be held where people have to go to a votebooth and click on something where they can vote who they want.

Interesting ideas, but this probablly belongs in the wishlist forums.  Im gathering the Devs havn\'t really put much effort into this at the moment, preferring to concentrate on getting the more basic stuff sorted out first.  So I wouldnt criticize the current structure that much, because it remains to be seen whether that will be the structure in the final (sic) game.
Still, I agree about the points of having leaders elected from the players, it would certaintly be an interesting an welcome addition,

Yliakum doesn\'t strike me as one big city, either. I assume this is a mix-up in the site info, not an official statement.
However, there are not just the Octarchs, there also are the Vigesimi,
as the government section clearly states. One octarch and 20 Vigesimi per level. This sounds appropriate IMO, since the Vigesimi will resemble regional leaders (each level subdivided into 20 regions). Cities will have their own administration, but they will report to the Vigesimi of their region, not be independant (mayors, basically).

Well perhaps but doesn\'t sound very realistic. Specially when you hear about things like tensions between races in the stories it doesn\'t seem very historicly correct to think all just bow down to one leader. And all levels aswell?

I think it doesn\'t seem very realistic. A place with as much organizations like guilds around still all under one banner?

I think it would be way more credible if there are things like kingdoms with the cities being the main points and useally only having a few villages under their jurisdiction. Perhaps have Octarchs instead of kings, but don\'t have them just rule one plane. That just seems to simple and wishing for a better world and thus unrealistic.

question ofcourse is how much do you want guilds as to individuals to have politics.

Single persons has the advantage you don\'t have to have a good guild to start right away. This way the big guilds can\'t just make agreements between them and it\'s more \"democratic\", but on the other hand using guild as a starting point would be more stable. The leaders of guilds normally are more active and if a person becomes inactive there is a guild that just sends an other representative making sudden inactivity less bothersome to the rest of the players.

Would also add a way where guilds have something to aim for without violence

Think guild would be the way to go right now specially with people so often dropping out without notice.

Planeshift is an evolving world. If you don\'t like the system you can change it with a revolt, either a slow year-taking one or a fast and 1-day-revolt.

They want to rule Yliakum. A system of a Princess (Aelya) and minions and all that kind of stuff.
Seems like they don\'t like the system so they\'ll change it.

Unrealistic and not to your taste? Change it then!


Personly I don\'t care who rules or not... as long as they let me teach whatever i want.

IMO this is actually...a really good idea  . It would be awesome to have player controlled governments.   It would give reason to have guild wars--those for the gov and those who think the players should be replaced.

Meriner: the devs will have no control over what\'s going on in Yliakum. If Yliakum is worse then Death Realm they can\'t do a thing... they\'re just developing the game.

Economics, Politics and all that stuff will be controled by players

So it won\'t be hard to throw down a Octarch... You only have to take out the guards... have some in death realm that are always killing the guy when he arrives until he gives up being an Octarch. Then do it with all Octarchs and tada! your guild rulez Yliakum!

bringing back this thread again, i have a few stuff to add.....

There  could be one ruler and his vegisimi (or w/e there called) and as the game progresses players could have uprises and rebellions and it would be the octarchs job to quel the fighting and bring peace to the lands again ......OR.......if it was a careless ochtarch they could just let the chaos happen until (whichever region) falls to the hands of some sinister Villain.......OR..........the octarch could be evil in disguise and rule the (region)(until he is ruled out of his position as octarch)..either way Yliakum would be turned into the real \"players world\" where the player\'s choices of whats going to happen actually happens. And maybe someday there would be certain guilds ruling the regions of Yliakum and it would increase guild wars even more.

Unfortunately GMs are always OOC unless specifically involved in a roleplaying event and stating so - so that doesn\'t quite work ;)

Remember PS isn\'t open pvp, LB. And for reasons like that, it shouldn\'t be.

I was thinking about posting a tread like this until I found this one.

IMO this is a great idea and guilds should rule and they sould be givin authority over places. Guilds should fight over the towns, maybe becoming the ruler of a whole level or *gasp* all of Yikarium. This would encourage alliances and wars between the guilds.
 
There could be a castle in each city that must be owned by a guild in order to rule the city. In order to own the castle they (maybe) could ,lets say, kill all the opposing guild players in it, kill the ruler, or capture four towers and raise their flag in each. They could even hire NPCs to guard their castle, upgrade it with different things, and the such.

The rulers have COMPLETE authority over any town they control. They can change prices of buying/selling an item. All NPCs in the city will follow it and anyone caught selling them lower or way too high (up to ruler discretion) they can be punished. If the ruler wants to put someone to death and not allow them into theyre town they can. Whatever the ruller wishes can be done in the territory they own. If the people dont like it then too bad. OR REVOLUTION!!!

Every city could have a certain amount of territory of the outside lands it controls (which makes you choose cities more stratigicaly). Every thing that can happen in the city can happen in the territory.

Eventually, with something like this, great thing will happen that change an entire aspect to the game. People wouldnt get bored because things change constantly change. heck we could GYW(Great Yikarium War) I and GYW II. Who knows. With a system of government ruled \"by the people and for the people\" (nah just the first part) the world would never be the same.
