double-handed weapons
« on: September 07, 2005, 10:09:32 am »
If this has been discussed before already, just ignore this post.

Up to now I haven\'t seen any double handed weapons in the game. Even battleaxes and longswords are used single-handed.

If there would be strong weapons blocking both hands, that would be more realistic and more fun, because the people would have to decide between two weaker weapons and one strong.

You could also limit this on the weaker races, so there would be some races that still can handle two of them, maybe with some punishment in damage, accuracy or speed.

Just an idea ...

one problem with this is that all new animation would need to be made.

well its not really a prolbem... just work.
<Rux> i wish i could say that narrows it down, but the internet is one freaky place

Oh ell theres still 50000 more animations to be made anyway. I\'d say what would be even better is you can CHOOSE to weild a sword with two hands.
That would increase accuracy, power and decrease the strength requirement. But then of course you can\'t weild another shield or sword.

For example, say a bastard sword (Very big very heavy and powerful sword) needs 160 strength to weild. Most people would NEED to weild it with two hands, lowering the str requirement to 100 or something, but the especially powerful warriors would be able to weild two of them, at the cost of power and accuracy.

This should not be a problem. All that needs to be done is to make one two-handed animation per character. And if the cal3d system wasnt so bugged, they would only need to make one global animation. An animation is just a few sticks that move around, so its not like it\'s much work imo.

@ odd2k:

I don\'t think it\'s quite that easy.

Every weapon has it\'s own animation, normally even more. (A battleaxe can be swung from side to side, can come down on one\'s head, you can also knock someone down with the stick. A lond sword can do these too, but can also stab the enemy, and there may possibly be some combinations, available at higher skill levels.) So it\'s not done with some simple left-to-right swing.

Right now the\'re all the same :P

LATER yes there\'ll be far more. However, provided we do it right each weapon type will have many animations based on level, and there will only be need for one of each type using global animation.

No, as I said were still gonna need 50000 animations so a few more shouldn\'t matter :P

Sorry taboo8614 but apart from that you don\'t like having doublehanded weapons I didn\'t really understand your post. Could you please rewrite it in a more public-readable manner?

A *dubble* handed weapon will usually always be stronger than a 1 handed weapon, it would be stupid if it wasn\"t cause you put more power into swinging with 2 hands, in the game if a 2 handed weapon sclearly is stronger than a 1 handed (in PVP) the 1 handed should knocked out of his hand
