Trouble starting game
« on: September 09, 2005, 01:02:32 am »
Hi, cheers for reading :)

I found Planeshift by accident, so I\'m thinking if I get on to it, it\'s just a really pleasant bonus - still, having read through the site, it\'d be great to!

Every time I try to start up the game, I get an \'Exception_Access_Violation at 2D43AAF7\' notice, followed by \'Instruction 0x08398d33 referenced memory at 0x0522fe238. Memory could not be \"read\"\'. I\'ve set up a character (my screenname here :p), try to load him, but no joy.

Is there something I can do? As far as I know, I have the latest update, and, searching here, discovered sound was sometimes a problem, so turned that off; no luck though! If it helps, I think I saved a dump file of the anomaly somewhere.

So, is there any hope of me getting on, or have I done something irreversible?!

Many thanks :)

Nothing is irreversible.  :D

Try updating your graphics drivers, and running the updater.

lol! I\'m sorry, I really do mean thanks... No, my video drivers are new, so I just tried the updater again the now, then starting the game again.

Now it cuts out even earlier :P

Whoo-hoo, we\'re killing it!

Ah well, cheers for replying, guy :) Anyone got anymore ideas?

Ok, what are your system specs?  How much RAM do you have and what video card?

Mmm... video card probably the problem, you\'re right... - on bropadband connection, o/s win2000 pro, a Kyro Hercules graphics card, 3D prophet 4000xt. 1 ghz processor and - I _think_ - 392 mb RAM? Sounds a weird number, though...:\\

Ach, my pc\'s just not as big as other guys\'... :p

Well, the RAM is a bit low, but bareable.    It might be the card, but I don\'t know for sure.

Go here:  http://command.no-ip.com/dmp/
And upload that dump file.

Cheers!

A \"dump file\" is a literal dump of everything it was thinking about when it died.  They can be used by a programmer to figure out what went wrong, on occasion.

Is this the exact same error?  (check the number)  You, too, should try disabling sound, running the PlaneShift updater, and updating your graphics card drivers.
