I had the same problem. The updater is synchronizing the zip-files or something the whole time. It realy, realy takes long time. It\'s not your connection, just the way the updater is working. It took half an hour on my comp.

Good luck and hang on!

Since two or somesuch days, I have noticed a severe performance decrease in the update server. Just downloading the registry takes about 50 times as long as it used to. I can imagine that downloading files of any significant size ATM will be an issue of days. This is not the normal problem of the updater taking long due to it synching the zips all the time, it is a problem with the update server or it\'s connection to the net.

Is there anywhere we can download the updates manually?  My updater has been running for about 3 hours now and its only at 14%

In theory, you can get all files by hand. However, besides being extremely tedious, this will not help in any way, because that\'s just manually doing what the updater aplication does, so the same speed problems will arise.

However, I think it is possible to run without the updates (if you download the most recent version which is 0.3.011). You will miss out on some bugfixes and content, but playing should work AFAIK.

Or you could build it from the source... Then you get a fast DL and the bug fixes. Of course you need to know how to build it, though...

Something has changed since when I got the game (the 7th).  I\'ve heard some theories thrown around but haven\'t heard anything definitive.
Everything related to the updater is much slower and some people have mentioned more lag in general on the server.

If anyone has information on how to update the game manually it would be helpful.  I imagine there is some way to get the revised files and just replace the old ones.  There might be some way to get the compressed update file (if there is one) and have the updater process it (would still have to download the registry).

Redlig, no. The updates reside on the update server, which is the same machine as the game server, so while you could get them manually, as I said, the same performance issues would apply. The only option would be to get them off the devs themselves, but that\'s unlikely to happen. There is no mirror for the updates.

@Cha0s: This is true, but 1) you\'ll also get the new, as of yet unreleased bugs, and also the changes in the content, like art and models, aren\'t in the CVS, and they are by far the largest portion of the updates.

to avoid zip syncing:
you can delete the zip file in question so that it doesnt sync after each small file change, however this doesnt stop the nasty download speed. BUT.. only do this if there are lots and lots of updates to 1 zip, as it will put more load on the server if you want to DL a whole zip instead of just updates.

understand? or maybe not? i dunno, hope you do :(  ?(  ?(

Better way:

Quote
From updaterconfig.xml:
    0
    100
    50

You can tell it how much of the zip needs to be changed to just get the whole file, or change the whole_zips option to 1 to force it for all.  Just edit the file, and write-protect the thing to prevent it from being undone.  :P  (leave the middle setting alone)
