textures / sound issues

- apt-get install libopenal0 libopenal-dev python-openal
- apt-get install jam dialog libcurl3-dev libcurl3

- download and run the platyna .run
- erase everything except art
- download and run the platyna Update2.run /x64
- Remove pssound.csplugin from your Planeshift dir
- give all right to users in the planeshift dir

RESULTS :
- No sound + very basic textures with a low FPS (under XP I had 166.7 up to 200 FPS under linux 12.5 up to 80 FPS)
- PS said no dri has been found (a message with flawed inside)

Specs : Debian etch(/sid for some packages)
nForce4 Geforce6600 256Mb amd64 s939 3200+ Creative labs SB live 7.1 24bits 1024Mb dual RAM SATA Maxtor
latest alsa installed manually (youth error)
nvidia drivers installed with apt (debian specific release)

no sound if i tried openal / software / no sound or hardware

Ad 1.
You know why I dislike Debian and I use every opportunity to flame it?
No offence, but Debian users are incredibly stubborn and the only people they
listen to are Debian developers. Nvidia is relasing new versions of their
drivers FOR PURPOSE, guess what is that purpose? Let me give you some hints:
- Fix bugs.
- Improve.

And who may know better their hardware than those guys who actually designed it?

If you come here for help, please follow our advices, \"help us help you\".

Ad 2.
/planeshift/tools/panflute01.jpg is not your file system path but path on VFS
(virtual file system) used by Planeshift client, and that warning is actually one
of many you may safely ignore.

ps: i am a debain user with latest nvidia-drivers and ps runs fine ;)

I am using testing distrib

@Platyna: but nvidia drivers dont work with my amd64 architecture. For sure, i tested them and the removing step of their how beautiful drivers really f*cked my configuration like the debian users said. Moreover, there are only two games that dont work under my debian : planeshift and chromium. Chromium has sound issue and planeshift sound and graphic issues.

You are telling me weird things here...newest Nvidia\'s driver (7676) for x86_64
not works for you? Maybe you haven\'t read the howto? You have to edit your
X config file manually to make it work, it for example conflicts with dri drivers
and xcomposite extension. I think a small cup of RTFM could do the trick.

Anyway Planeshift is a demanding game, it rather needs latest drivers, but if
RTFMing wont work then you may still listen to advice of fellow Debian user above.

I installed the nvidia drivers long time before by changing manually the XF86Config-4.conf.
change nv into nvidia and remove DRI and GLcore (or something like that)

Nvidia drivers refused to install because they required a chroot in 32bits to install OpenGL... It is a real shame in my mind ! Whats the most strange is that   debian release seems to work perfectly without chroot...

but if you think my xorg.conf isnt correctly confgured, any advice would interest me :

advises follow:
- entirely remove the dri-section
- try adding a
Code: [Select]

    SubSection  \"extmod\"
      Option    \"omit xfree86-dga\"   # don\'t initialise the DGA extension

to the modules-section. if the problems extend with this, omit it ;)
- add a bit more config to your device-section, perhaps also modify some environment-variables. see /usr/share/doc/nvidia-glx/README.txt.gz for further information
- run a system-update, because x.org just entered testing, i think. if you use x.org, the config-file has to be /etc/X11/xorg.conf
- try to use the latest drivers from the sources i posted above. it\'s the personal repository of the official maintainer of the debian-nvidia-packages. this way you always get the latest drivers as soon, as they are packaged ;) but beware: there is currently a bug in nvidia-glx-dev
- run \"./updater -auto\" in you planeshift-directory. sorry if i annoy you with this, but you didn\'t yet say you ran the updater ;)

Thanks for your help...

I had too many troubles with my old installations : i installed alsa and nvidia manually and it created a lot of library trouble.

I finally decided to reinstall completely my debian

now nvidia-settings is written there is a Direct rendering but I didnt install DRI module and moreover everything work perfectly. I think planeshift should works but now i cannot try it... I ll inform you ! ;-)

works : framerate from 90 up to 250 FPS (moreover its even amazing how nice ps works in windows mode!!! Under WinXP, I cant easily use a browser while ps is running)

Font issue while displaying You have nothing in mind : O didnt displayed but there is another character instead

How to solve the sound issue ?

would openal works ? or is it a bug ?
