18 hours of updating... and not yet finished
« on: September 18, 2005, 05:27:41 pm »
Hello

Time of test: 17 september 2005. 22h30 => 18 september 2005. 17h20
OS: Windows 2000 Pro SP4
Processor: Athlon 2200+
RAM: 1024 DDR
Video Card: ATI RADEON 9600 PRO
Video Card Memory: 256 MO
PS Client Version: PS CB 0.3.011
OpenGL or Safe Mode:
Description of the bug: I have downloaded the client 0.3.011, then installed it, then i launch the updater...
after the first crash (about 3 hours later) , I\'ve used the PS UPDATER (recover mode) but after 18 hours the download is not yet finished. I usually download files with a good speed near 850 Ko/s here I ve just reached 2 kb/s once time. Does it take the same time for everybody or should i do something?
The 4 files who dont want to be downloaded are:
art/world/akkaio.zip
art/world/hydlaa_plaza.zip
art/world/hyjayose.zip
art/world/hydlaa_jayose.zip
The updater seems to be unable to download them. I\'ve never reached more than 25% of art/world/akkaio.zip.
Maybe could i download them somewhere and install them manually?

Thanks for posting an actually detailed report. for that.
However, this problem is known, and, as usual, a search would have brought up the relevant threads. The reason is that there are known but as of yet unsolved performance issues with the update /  game server.

If your updater stops, quitting and restarting it will allow it to continue where it left off. It won\'t send you all the way back to the beginning, so don\'t worry about that. :) Always use the --auto argument for best results.

Yes the updater is slow... veiw the other millions of threads about it being slow and see what you can dig up LOL! it is all spread out... maybe it should be a sticky about the updater... and you go and post your complaint there...

Those four files are updating for me right now... crawling by, really.  But they are updating for me, which surprises me because I have a particularly slow connection.

WAIT!  Oh, it just finished updating.  I can play now.  *is happy*

I\'d suggest that you try to just wait through the update.

the first update is unimaginably huge... so big that it  has beat the contest for most topics of a realated thing... no but really its huge... and people get unpatient and come posting thinking that it froze when in computerality it is just really big thus it takes a while for the percentage to go up one block thingy...
