Can?t play
« on: September 18, 2005, 07:44:24 pm »
When I start the game, this message pops up: SCF_WARNING: factory returned a null instance for crystalspace.kernel.vfs
if error messages are not self explanatory, recompile CS with CS_DEBUG
WARNING: could not load plugin \'crystalspace.kernel.vfs\'
Couldn\'t load VFS plugin \"crystalspace.kernel.vfs\"!
ERROR: csInitializer::SetupConfigManager failed!
Is your CRYSTAL environment variable set?
Exiting Planeshift.  Press Enter...

I havn?t uppdated yet, but MonkeyHell said I could play and uppdate at the same time.
Is that perhaps not possibly first time you uppdate?

I wouldn\'t think it is possible to update and play at the same time.  What the updater does is replace existing PS files on your hard drive with updated versions from the server.  If you are playing the game and using a file as the updater is trying to replace it, one of two things is going to happen:

1) the updater will fail, because the file in question is in use
2) the file will be replaced, and the game engine will freak out because the data in the file does not match what it expects to see, given the version of the file when the game was launched.

You would probably be able to download the game and play it without running the updater, though you would be missing some fixes and updates that others have, which might cause problems in and of itself.

I wasn?t uppdating while I started the game, althoug I?m trying again now.

MonkyHell says that if he starts the game first he?s able to play while downloading

Download this:
http://www.planeshift.it/download/temp/vfs.dll
and replace your old one in your PlaneShift folder with it.

Then run the updater.

save the diagnostics file and send it in for the devs and gms and people to look at and try to figure it out...
