A global auction system would be silly.  At the same time, not being able to say what you have in the marketplace would also be silly.


What about a system which involved players setting up stores?  So instead of saying what you have, other people can just ~look~, and perhaps even buy it without using the trade system?

why not have an auction house? special for selling and buying stuff.

Drey: because there are loads of markets and places to do it already. People can make a shop where they want :P
A acution house would make impossible to set up a store where the player(s) want.
And if they did exist, some people would start going like \"There\'s an auction house for that\" :P

My merchants /auction that they have various types of weapons. The players come to the shop and can check what I\'m selling in the description of my merchants. It\'s the best way I\'ve found so far.

Personally I find the manner in which /auction is used/abused so irritating that i\'ve set the auction RGB to 0 0 0.  I would not really object to it if it were done it an RP way, but sadly it never is.  Someone said something like \"PS is a world where we know how much damage weapons can do.\"  This is partially true; sure, our characters would have some idea how good a weapon is, especially compared to another.  But they would not be able to explain that in slash or in damage dealt.  The only numbers involved in buying/selling weapons should be weight and trias, as these are the only values that our characters have any knowledge of.  Anything else is OOC, therefore i igonore it, and since OOC dominates the /auction channel, I have rendered it invisible to make it easier to ignore.

Actually i was about to post something similar to what Drey had posted...

In a game, conquer, there is a completely other map called \"Market\" and you go there and there are mats set up everywhere and you pick one the sit at it and sell... so an entirely different sector/map for marketing would cut down on \"spam/overusage\" of auction in the other maps... actually /auction shouldnt exist...

You should have the bulletin boards and be able to out your name in, though it will cost money (like 200 or 300 tria) it will work well as i know archon does shop business in Ojadevi and he has a big store, but no ones really knows he\'s there, but say if you spam in the bulletin it will get removed and you will be in the law enforcers, the law idea is good and the Law enforcers would be good, they could be used for thiefs as well, caught in town thieving from shops

Ralas: I told that, and i\'m sad that we have such numbers. It is nonsense. But it isn\'t up to me to decide what should be and what shouldn\'t. Nonsense is also ignoring this fact, because all what is part of PS game is part of the PS world. So from two nonsenses i have choisen the first.
I came to this after i was trying to look logic in few matters which became part of the game and i failed badly. So i don\'t care that much anymore and i roleplay there where i still can.
Sorry for this little off topic opinion.

Rage McCloud: If you think that shouting people are spamming, then your post is also spam.
If you try to take ideas from a game where people jump instead of run (because it is faster^^) and the main (if not only) activity is hack&slash then you should think if this can be of any use for PS.

Oh and i forgot to say that i like the idea of bulliten boards... spam should ban you from using it... like three spams your out kind of deal... and you must set a time limit to your \"auction\" so after a while the post on the bulletin baord would dissappear... also i believe mostly all auctions shoulld be mainly spread by word of mouth...
that would be funny because it might be like the game telephone and it gets really messed up and all wrong times yadda yadda...

you would have to visit the Board man,  you couldn\'t just tell him and kinda book one in, in those days did we have phones were we could call them, so you have to meet him and talk to him, Rage\'s idea of how long it is on there is what i was thnking, you could have it on for a week (for like 1.5k) or have it for an hour, but the person who does this job(should be an NPC)will make alot of money, though you would need a    smart NPC to stop spam and stuff, maybe for the bulletin you could have title and owner, a short description (like 1 or 2 sentences long), where you are and etc. it should only be short though

Hmm.. I dont really care for the whole having a market as a zone to itself.  I like market type areas in town.. but having a market as its own zone is quite an old idea.   It was used in EQ as well.  Nor do I like the idea of having an Auction house because any game that seems to do that has tremendous lag in the said town (WoW).  I think bulletin boards and the ideas presented before would be more realistic in this setting.

A friend of mine got me to try another game called \"Pristontale\".

I didn\'t like the game, but the system they used was interesting.  You could make a \"shop\" section for your inventory where you would put items for sale, and you could set the price.  If you right click on someone, one of the icons would be to view that person\'s shop.  Likewise, people who right click on you could browse your shop.

The problem was that whenever I walked into a market area, my chat window was assaulted by 75 people shouting \"shop shop shop!\"

Thats pretty much like on conquer but when you go to a mat you sit on it and put items in a window and set the prices and also you could do an auto say thing where it would say \"shop BILLY MART\" or something every 30 seconds... but i wouldnt like that in PS as it leads to Chat lagging/traffic

In MU you had a personal store and it had a small description above your head, it was an alright idea, but the auction needs to be gone soon because people just talk in it and it gets really annoying, the bulletin board idea is different and is a realistic idea, i like that
