Someone said something like \"PS is a world where we know how much damage weapons can do.\"

Ralas: I told that, and i\'m sad that we have such numbers. It is nonsense. But it isn\'t up to me to decide what should be and what shouldn\'t. Nonsense is also ignoring this fact, because all what is part of PS game is part of the PS world. So from two nonsenses i have choisen the first.

I disagree with you here.  Just because something is part of the game does not mean that it is part of the PS world.  The numbers are for the player only, not the character.  As in your level 20 d&d elf with a sword that does 3d12 damage does not know he\'s level 20, does not know that his sword does 3d12 damage, and, most likely, does not even know what 3d12 means.  Same thing goes for PS.  Our characters do not know our weapons\' speed, slash value, or how much damage they deal:  that knowledge is only for the benefit of the player.

Establish a bulletin board in each town listing all items for sale, wtb, etc..

Q: Hey, that\'s not realistic, how does this information magically flow between towns?

A: The NPC in charge of the bulletin board will give fed-ex quests to newbies. They\'ll carry little envelopes to the next town, the bulletin board gets updated, and the newbies get a few bucks without having to kill rats.

Practical, \"realistic\", and adds a another tiny facet to the economy.

tefusang, good idea though it will be a bit hard for the NPC to let the noob do the quest, but what if the noob doesn\'t do it, and what if someone already has done it

No one is saying that the bulletin board should have every item listed on it. I think a person/guild should have to pay a fee to post something on the bulletin board.  But not what we have.. more like \"Vaalnor Supply Shop\"  with maybe a short explanation about what it is and where it is at.  Also a list of merchants or whatever.  And I would say it should not be a one time fee.. maybe once a week or something like that.  This would allow guilds/ shops or whatever to advertise ingame in a realistic manner.  And I am definatly for it.

I was thinking about the guild idea that valbrandr already posted, but it would be unrealistic if anyone found a poster on the floor and you put your name on it (it would be unfair) but the guild idea is alright

Why not make some kind of newspaper where journalists put in news and merchants pay for ads.

Some newspapers could be for free (paid through the ads), some would have to be bought by the reader.

The problem is, you either have to be able to take the newspaper with you, take some notes on what has happened and what is sold where or you need to have some kind of news archive where you can look up old news.

So there would be some journalists, maybe with some kind of fast mailing system, enabling them to spread news from others world regions faster than the normal traveller. And it would add a great deal of realism and ffun to the game.

Just my opinion ...

NPC only gives out 1 quest to carry info to another town. No duplicate messages.

If newbie doesn\'t complete quest, the bulletin board NPC will never give him another quest.

A few messages might be lost, but the vast majority will make it. I\'m sure the pony express lost the occasional letter. Hell, modern post offices sometimes lose mail, but everyone still uses them.

Actually this could be a problem as there would need to be newbs who already knew the route between the towns.  That could be a nice quest for newer players, but perhaps a currier quest could fill till that role.  I\'m thinking that this information could be magically flowing between towns.  Perhaps in the PS world, scientists from say KS have discovered a way to make univeral magical posters, which can automatically or automagically :D update themselves and each other.  This isn\'t unrealistic in the PS world, as Its a magical world anyways, and the effects of the crystal that lights the world might have the power for just such technology to not be out of place in character.

When no Player is about to bring news from town to town, why not create NPCs as messengers (as they are now able to walk) travelling between towns delivering news in a rather slow, but realistic and steady way.

a good point there rolf... or the NPC\'s could give a warning to the player when he is doing the quest if he is slacking off
