READ THIS if updater is taking long time!
« on: September 25, 2005, 03:44:14 pm »
We have setup a server just for the updater files, this will lighten the load of the game server, so hopefully we will have less lag.

If you are updating and it\'s taking long time, please check your server configuration. We now have 2 new mirrors, you can use one or the other depending on speed you get.

Instructions for the 1st mirror site are here:

http://psmirror.u24.solone.net/

Instructions for the 2nd mirror site are here:

http://psmirror.pfdev.net/

Notice:

1) The updater can continue from the place it stopped, so you can shut it down, and restart it later.

2) Reinstalling the game means you will lose the current progress of the updater, so it will redownload all the updates.

3) If you got the latest files, the solone server is now the default one. Remember that after updating the default server is used again. After an update check the updaterconfig.xml file.

4) We are working on a new updater that will automatically split the users on different servers, so editing the files will no more be needed.

Thanks.

Hi, i am totally new and just downloaded the 0.3.011 via torrent.

Update speed is now 16 KByte/s instead of 3 KB/s, which is much better, but i don\'t like to say it is good.

I would like to suggest that updates bigger than (enter your favorite size here)  MB are distributed via torrents like updatepackages. Maybe the gpl tool rsync is worth a closer look, i don\'t know your requirements.

But the reason for this post is the information that the modification of the \"updaterconfig.xml\" must be done for every update again, because it is overwritten during the update progress and so the original file is restored.

Update complete, shifting plane...

instruction link
« Reply #3 on: September 30, 2005, 12:38:33 am »
The instruction link in the initial post is dead for some reason.  I want to find a way to make the updater speed up, I\'m getting a (relatively) decent ping on the updater, but the download rate is between 1-3kbps.

If someone could post a copy of the instructions in that link, that would be very helpful.

PS also, Ive been trying to get into the setup program, and I click on Planeshift setup, nothing happens.  No hour glass icon, not the sound of the hard drive, its like I didnt click at all.

could this be because I havent finished updating?  I downloaded the crystal blue client today, so it couldnt be that out of date, right?

Causa, again

PPS Nevermind, I was able to open it in firefox using the ctrl-t command.  Just in case someone else has this same problem, here is a list of the instructions:

Edit: I had the instructions posted, but since the instructions in the link may change, I\'d hate to mess up someones updater.

If you want to make sure your updaterconfig.xml file is not overwritten every time, mark it as read-only after you make the change (\"Lock\" it on Mac OS X).

I have a question, everytime i try to download the update it gets on big file done and moves on to lil files.   during this process the bottom bar goes up 1% and it freezes.  I did that thing mentioned earlier in this thread, but no luck, and when i start the updater again, the updates start all over.  Is there someway i can download the updates without using the updater, because if not, I will not be able to download this.  I have a good connection to, decent.

EDIT: :O I found it out, maybe I\'m not as dumb as I thought :D

This is a lot faster :D

...But there still isn\'t any new update :/

The updater did not save it\'s progress after freezing some of the way through, I had to close the updater and it started back at 0% again, it goes fast at the beginning when it\'s downloading the registry but when it comes to getting the real files it\'s back to 1kb, I checked the wordpad doc and it was back to the origional again. What gives?

The updater updates only these files that need updates. If you have 3 files (call them A, B, C), then this is your 100%. If you cancel the updater after A being updated and start it over again, you have only 2 files (B and C) that need updates.

And yes, it starts again from 0% because B and C is now your 100% 8) . And yes, it saved its progress, because it will not update A  8) .
