PlaneShift Public GM Channel
« on: September 27, 2005, 03:33:43 am »
Recently people have been expressing dissatisfaction with the current way to discuss stuff with a gm or complain about one. Namely, having to track down a developer and email them or PM them, which is not always the fastest way to resolve things.

In light of this a new irc channel has been created for the purpose of helping players find a GM, whether for trying to plan an event, complaining about the behavior of another player, or even complaining about the actions of another GM. I feel it is important to note that this is not a place for you to get into a flamewar against the entire GM team! If you want to know why a GM did what they did, want to get GM assistance (someone needs muting, renaming, or kicking?), or want to locate the GM that assisted you ingame in order to \"argue your case\", come here. (Such arguing may be requested to be moved into a /query private message window if it\'s making it difficult for others to get help)

With that said, the rules can be pretty well summarized as: no obscene content of any kind, don\'t start namecalling, no spamming, use common sense.

And now, ladies and gentlemen (and Kran), I present to you... #planeshift-gmtalk!

Instructions for connecting are here.

For people who just want to know the specifics, we\'re on
Server: irc.freenode.net port 6667
Channel: #planeshift-gmtalk
Op: josePhoenix

What Karyuu says Karyuu gets :P..

***Valbrandr counts the stickied threads already..

Hmm there are already 7, we will just have to keep this near the top if nothing else.  Also though I have never talked with you Jose I would like to thank you.  Now every time someone complains we can refer them to the channel.  Just started and already doing a good job :).

Moogie thought I should emphasize that this is not a channel made primarily for public arguing with a GM.. you can refer people here but this should just be a stop on the way to private messages enabling the player to find the gm he or she needs to speak with easily and keeping the potential for flamewars out of the other channels ;)

That said, we\'re looking for potential ideas for GM run events, if you have one, dropping by #planeshift-gmtalk would be a good way to make it known :)

Also, this provides an opportunity for you mortals to bask humbly in our glory... ... ...just kidding about that.

I\'m assuming that all GMs will be voiced in here, all the time, so that they can be easily identified by the players?

Yup, you assume correctly. I\'m looking around for other ways to identify GMs, but in the interim this is the best way I can find ;)

Might I suggest in addition to voicing GMs, putting a list of all GMs in the topic?

maybe not in the topic. perhaps in an on join message. it could make for a bit of a long/messy topic.

also perhaps a trigger phrase that would repeat the list.

Another idea that I had.. just to get it around and let people know who dont come to the forum often or at all.. Putting a message like \"you can report ingame abuses here \" in teh welcome message when you get ingame.. not the MOTD in the loading but the actual welcome message.. that could help I little I think :P.

one thing though, this could compramise our privacy.
<Rux> i wish i could say that narrows it down, but the internet is one freaky place

I think this is a good idea, lets hope people will use it now.

And Drey, how does an IRC channel compromise your privacy? I \'m afraid I don\'t really get that.

well i accept that some people may have guesesed who my GM is... (thats not an invite for people to go posting names...) but if someone goes in saying i want to talk to GM X you then have to reveal who you are to them.

but oh well ive never had complaints about me, at least not to me which is where they should come if there are any so yeah, im there now :D

Well I don\'t directly see why a GM needs to keep his/her identity secret but you could always log into the IRC with your GM character\'s name.

because then people come up to you ingame and are all like hey you GM blah blah, or will argue because of GM decisions you made (not that people dont treat me different already.)... and sometime you just want to be secret.

also the hostmark will be the same...

Eh... but don\'t players have the right to argue about GM decisions in-game?
