Serious problems!
« on: October 01, 2005, 10:37:25 pm »
Well I enjoyed the game experience, but I was left with a sour taste in my mouth in the end. This game has issues which are pretty much unforgivable for any kind of MMORPG. I will describe them.

A)Technical Issues:
1)frequent Updater errors
2)frequent char creation errors
3)lack of restart opion (log-out to main menu)
4)serious OpenAl issues (sometimes OpenAl crashes the game)
5)Chances are high to get stuck in walls/stairs/ladders/ground => char deletion, cause you can\'t pull him out :)

B)Game Issues:
1)lack of trainer NPC\'s
2)lack of init quests
3)lack of items/money
4)poor spawn rates (I once walked 2 hours to find a monster !!!)

Community issues
1)CVS works bad, it always misses 2-3 files, which have to be downloaded manually

The game is great but especially issues  A-5 and B-2;B-3;B-4 make it look a bit crappy...

You do know this is a pre-alpha tech demo? ;)

False. Have you tried the /unstick command? Hitting /unstick twice will also act as a sort of /suicide, and send you to the Death Realm if all else fails.

.... what? Are you sure you were in-game?

What game were you playing?

Rats and Fanatics and some Rogues are rather common in the sewers, along with a Tefusang and some Gobbles. Then outside of Hydlaa, in the hills, there are plenty of Tefusang, Trepors, Rogues and Brigands, and Ulbernauts. There are also creatures in Akkaio, and many opportunities for sneaking up on creatures in the Arena.

I\'m at a bit of a loss.. Did you actually try to explore?

Yeah, I know, but given the large community I don\'t think it would have been THAT hard to solve the minor problems and put up a patch :) Or would it?:)

Could I possibly send some improved models for NPC\'s so that guards won\'t have the same look as the players? :)

PS: I explored for 2-3 hours. Got stuck 8 times, found a dead rogue and a dead rat, 2 merchants and some standing NPC\'s (who were doing nothing).

A:
1)  This junk is all recent.  It\'s a temporary problem.
2)  Yes... /me points at Karyuu\'s post
3)  Agreed, but that\'s not as serious as you think it is.  Someone said a while back though, that as of now that\'s not doable.  Gonna have to wait on that one, most likely.
4)  Then just turn off sound; we\'ve all made it quite clear sound support is sketchy at best.
5)  Use the \"/unstick\" command; that\'s what it\'s for.  If that doesn\'t work, do it twice in rapid succession (use a shortcut if you need to) and you\'ll get sent to the Death Realm.

B:
1)  Not that I\'ve seen.  Every skill that works can be trained, if you find the right NPC.  Admittedly, it would be nice to be able to ask NPCs where you should look, and not just players...
2)  There are working quests, just not allot.  Look around.
3)  Common starting complaint (not completely unreasonable); deal with it.
4)  Um... then where were you?...

C:
1)  Blame SourceForge for CVS problems.  Besides, they\'ve just finished some upgrades, and are still a bit flaky.  Give it time.

Edited to add:
Karyuu\'s edits beat me to some of the above...

eye776: The only thing in your list that would be simple to add, is a new pile of quests... which probably wouldn\'t work yet...  The rest of the stuff is most certainly not trivial.

Ah man, if you think you can send in more models or any other contributions to the game, definitely try it. Either apply to the team completely, or try catching Talad on IRC, server: freenode, channel: #planeshift, and give him a poke. You will be loved for it :)

Ok, here\'s a render of a home-made creation (for a SP action-RPG) it has around 3500 poly

I\'ll make a custom human and elf guard tomorrow (for Planeshift :) ) and try to send them somehow.

Gorgeous! I\'d say you simply must apply ;) Be sure to read this thead though, paying most attention to the number of polys allowed for models. 3500 is way too much for PlaneShift :)
