specific bug report, server dropped us for unknown reasons
« on: November 10, 2002, 04:55:46 am »
I know this has been discussed here, I DID read those posts.  I simply want to describe how the problem arises for me and what I have tried to correct the situation.  I\'m not a newcomer to testing or programming and I understand the problem probably won\'t be fixed soon.  No biggie.

First I did a clean reinstall of PS and created a new Diaboli(sp? it seems to be spelled two different ways in the character creation menu) named Daturi.  The character creation seemed to go fine except for the \"server dropped us for unknown reasons\" which occured at the very end after selecting my password and the server \"ps.gamiix.com\".

I am running win2k so I cannot select win98 compatibility mode, but it seems that some others here are also using win2k.  I\'m not behind a firewall.  I can ping ps.gamiix.com successfully.  If I try a bogus character name or the wrong password, I get a different error message.  According to \"debug.txt\", the error happens after \"planeshift.application.client: PSLoader: step 3: success\".  It occurs whether I use OpenGL mode, software mode, sound or no sound (nice music btw).

I am open to suggestions.

P.S.  for all you griefers who gripe about the shape of the PS tech demo, find the pre-alpha of EQ sometime.  I\'ve played it; it looks more like a lame no sound, software 3D, keboard controlled rudimentary version of MM6 than any public version of EQ ever did.  Everything starts off small you just don\'t usually get to see it.

First of all yes I am trying to connect to \"ps.gamiix.com\".

I saw this in psclient.txt even though it seems like something that should be in a \"debug\" type of file:

P.S.  I suggest that in a future version the login handler display ****** for the password, and the user\'s password NOT be logged to the psclient.txt file.  I know it\'s just an alpha but why not nip a potentially embarassing bug now?

and for what it's worth

Using the precompiled release of crystalspace 0.94 in place of the .dlls that ship with the 004 demo of PS causes the ps client to crash.  So that didn\'t help.  If anyone can think of a solution or something else for me to attempt in testing PS, please do let me know.

Don\'t worry, any problems you may have will be fixed... but it will be fixed later instead of sooner.
