« on: October 04, 2005, 04:05:54 pm »
Could everyone (who can be bothered :P) please post any stats of weapons they have here. I just need the following info:

Weapon Name (Full)

If anyone wants to go the extra, find out how much Harns will offer you for it.

Please only post valid data.

Many thanks to all who partiapate (sorry about spelling) I will make the list avalible as soon as possible to those who are intrested.

Uber encrusted sword of uberness
sword
2
2
967
19 Harns

A bit more serious:
It is this kind of information what you are forbidden to collect and make it public. It is against license btw.
But it isn\'t the most important reason. Your character isn\'t supposed to know these stats and should behalve like you do in real. As you don\'t have such stats in real, they shouldn\'t be present in PS world for your character too. Making such list you are making your char to play in a game, when he/she should live in a world and in effect there is no difference beatwen you and your char.
If you indeed treat PS from your char perspective as a game, I don\'t have much respect for you.

yeah... i dont think this is such a good thing.

if you want to keep it in guild i would say that is fine... but not a whole public thing

just my opinion
<Rux> i wish i could say that narrows it down, but the internet is one freaky place

I think numbers and stats should be taken out of the game entirely.  When you have threads like this, to me it\'s a step in the wrong direction.

How would you like it if I posted my documents on character generation?  I have every single stat mapped out as far as how many character creation points they cost, what category their in, and how exactly they affect stats and skills.

If I posted it or released it to the community, wouldn\'t it be a horrible thing?  I think with weapons, it\'s somewhat similar.  The diversity is there for a reason.

I agree about the number bit. But that\'s not going to happen because I\'m the only one who seems to think that :P

\"Dude, you\'re really hurt!  This potion should help you get back on your feet!\"
\"Yeah, that trepor almost clobbered me!  I swear it was almost dead too!  Next time, I\'ll have to use a better sword.  Maybe something really well made.\"

versus

\"Dude, you\'re at 15%!  This potion should heal you back up to 60%!\"
\"Yeah, that trepor dealt me 145 damage!  It was down to 10% though, 1.47 more hits and I would have had it!  Next time, I\'ll have to use a better sword.  Maybe something with 40 slash.\"

It seems obvious to me...

Ok, but how do you institute that in a computer game?  Especially an MMORPG?  I can\'t think of any way that wouldn\'t be unfair to the player.

For example, a monster hurts you.  How would would you be able to tell without numbers?  If its a graphical implementation, you might not notice.. and that is not life-like (people always notice if they are hurt).

Even though I agree, there were already heavy discussions about it and valid argument were pulled forward against it...

In -exactly- same way you might not notice that you lost few points... The point?

Some numbers play the role of feelings which game don\'t provide us. But in many places they are just unnecessary and things can be found out in traditional way.
Of course it wll make things harder and slower to find out, but sometimes it is how it is happening in real life.

I\'m for totally removing the numbers out of the game too. This goes for weapon properties, damage dealt, as well as for stats, skill ranks and progression points. As long as you see figures, people will do nothing else then maxing them.

All you need is a health bar (without numbers or percentages). People will find out which weapon is better by using them and by viewing the item name and description. People will notice training makes them wield their weapons better, even if they don\'t know exactly which skill rank they have.

Besides, every MMORPG out has public fansites with detailed lists covering all the rules and monster / weapon characteristics. You can\'t stop it in the long run. So far, simply saying \"it\'s not allowed\" has stopped people from posting such lists on separate public sites. But as PS develops, the community will grow and the distance between the devs and the players will grow too. In the end you can\'t stops lists like these...
Unless you hide all the numbers in the game.

Here\'s an excellent read about it, stolen from someone\'s sig on these forums.

My point is, what if you play in a first person view mode?  How do you see that your character is hurt?

You can see it on the health bar...
If it turns red, or becomes shorter, you are getting hurt
