Clothes and Accessories
« on: January 17, 2002, 03:33:28 am »
Now this might have been addressed earlier but I just want to have some things clear, and put out a few ideas, but more ideas than clear things.

Idea #1: When in character creation (this can be in the demos or in the real game...WHATEVER!) choosing the clothes of a person will not just change the color. You can have long sleeves, short sleeves, same with pants, and ripped knee holes, etc. etc. THEN you could simply choose the colors.

Idea#2: New clothes (which I think will already be in game...please clear this) will be by-able and you can by a dresser/armhoir to store your beginning (from char. creation) clothes in and some new clothes you bought. Also, if you have a staff or a sword perhaps, you can lean the sword against the wall. The lean command would be used officially as a way to \"store\" leanable items, not just as some lazy thing.

Idea #3: An idea for new clothes is a sort of monk\'s outfit. Long robes going to a little below the ankles, and a pull-over hood. If there could be any way to make this, please at least attempt it.

Idea #4: Gloves and gauntlets- should also be by-able. The gauntlets could have jewels incrested on them increasing prices, and possibly a \"magic touch\" added for the ability to carry heavy things.

Idea#5: One simple word: Ring. Thats right, ring, baby! The rings could be made of the different available metals and have (using expert tools, or already made) writing inside them as a gift, or as secret inscriptions to an ancient scroll that gives the greatest of the great power (like \"the one\" ring from Lord of the Rings).

Idea#6: Amulets and necklaces. We can have enchanted amulets (yes, yes its from\" the game that shall not be named\" but I thought it was not that bad of an idea) and simple necklaces.

Idea #7: Hair shaving. Have a close cut, or a small but burly beard, or a long wizard\'s beard (like Gandalf from L.O.T.R.).

Now I am aware that programming is extremely hard and takes countless hours to do, so please don\'t think of me as some brat with ideas that \"must be done\". They are just simply ideas.

Something else perhaps is to have one\'s hair grow over time.

Idea #1 is a good idea and one I think could be implemented as soon as the character customization comes in.

Idea #2 to 6 will either come or are already in the game. I already have leather gloves, pants, boots, ... The only thing that is missing is that they aren\'t showing towards the outside world yet. So only I can see I \'m wearing them in my inventory screen. But I \'m sure they \'ll change that soon.

Idea #7 will probably also be put into the character customization but I do think it isn\'t a bad idea to still let characters change their haircut every now and then. Naturally growing hair would be even greater but not easy to create I think.

If there was only a few options, naturally growing hair might be easy.  You might only be able to appear clean shaven, have stubble, medium length, or long.

Naturally growing hair! Ooh, that\'d be nice! It should only grow while logged on, though, and not really fast (like once per RL week). However, it should be relatively easy to cut it back to what you prefer (not cut it longer, though :) ), since people tend to have perfectly trimmed hair and beards even after weeks in the wilderness. :D So one should be able to make do with a dagger and scissors or something. Barbers would be able to change the selected hairstyle (though, again, you\'d only be able to get the appropriate length haircut, i.e., not go from a short cut to plait instantly, but it\'d grow as it after changing).

And I like #1, too.

Plus, an extra  for searching and adding something meaningful!

For the clothing stuff I would assume at some point the characters would be in there \'unmentionables\' in the character creation screens and any clothing would be bought in game.

The hair stuff is surely possible, except that it might look a bit funny when it changes.  Some races like the female ynnwn have switchable hair meshes so would be just a matter of switching the mesh.

It\'s like in NWN, though you start off with some basic clothes, at least in singleplayer. The type and color of these starting clothes could be randomly selected, maybe taking into account the other char selection options to not give a white tunic to a miner. :D
*imagines hordes of newbies without money running from the spawn point to the sewers to slay rats for money to buy clothes and laughs heartily*

True, it would look a bit funny \"oh, my hair just grew again!\", but still. :) If the individual steps are more than a few, the changes wouldn\'t be too dramatic. *imagines hair sway in ingame wind*

Well a possible solution to that would be to let the hairchange come into effect the next time one logs in .. to prevent random jumps in hairlength during the game.
