Hey everyone! Just downloaded Planeshift. Connected and there was no one online. After walking around a bit, I figured out why. Heh. There\'s really nothing to do yet.
But I have faith! I can see Planeshift becoming a great MMORPG. I\'ve played 2 other MMORPGs: The Realm and Ragnarok Online.
The Realm was began in 1995 by Sierra Online, and within the past couple years was sold to Codemasters. They want $50/year or $5/month to play. It was fun, but got old. I started in the first year, when it was nothing more than a graphical chat area (Like PS is now), but with combat that would crash the client 50% of the time. Eventually evolved into a very large world with many types of creatures and spells, 3 races, and 4 classes. It was a blast, but as I said, it got old. The quests were lame, and the authors just kept promising good quests, but they never came.
Then I got into Ragnarok Online, which is created by Gravity, a company based in Korea. The graphics made me think of Final Fantasy Tactics, but the fighting style more resembled the Secret of Mana. Ragnarok was fun, but laggy, yet it was still free and in early beta stages. Then on August 3rd, they took down the American servers saying they\'ll be down for 3 months so they can focus more on the Korean and Japan servers. Its been just over 3 months and they haven\'t come back.
So I did a post to a newsgroup asking if anyone knew of any good MMORPGs that are free or have a free trial (Preferably one that was time-limited and not feature-limited) and they mentioned Planeshift.
I don\'t think I\'ll be playing Planeshift much right now, maybe just stopping in to see if anyone is online, and then maybe chat, but you bet I\'ll be watching the progress.
Have you guys considered starting a mailing list for when the game gets updated?

PS. There\'s an origin for my name Redner. I used to take a CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) class and one of my classmates always made a typo when typing the \"render\" command and would type \"redner\" so I decided to use that name in Medievia, a telnet-based MUD and now I use it whenever I need a Medieval name. I always sign my posts with my real name, DJ. On most other forums, I\'ll be \"Killrbyte\"
