first off... you post makes hardly any sense.

and at the moment, melee i dont think would ever beat weapons due to the uber slash blades around
<Rux> i wish i could say that narrows it down, but the internet is one freaky place

I don\'t think so. Why?
Have you ever heard of people fighting in battles with their fists?
Being good at melee combat won\'t make you any good if you\'ll get hit over your head with a mace before you can approach someone.
Granted, there are the monks who have high skills in dodging blows, but then you\'d need also dodging skill, not just melee. Maybe such skill could go way up if you had high melee skill and wouldn\'t use any non-melee weapons (like having one perk in Fallout). But then you shouldn\'t wear anything heavier than light armour either.

Someone wielding knives very maybe if your skill far exceeds theirs. Someone with a heavy slow sword, if you have good timing and luck on your side, sure. Someone with any weapon that gives them the advantage of range without the loss of speed ... bout the chance of a snowflake in hell.

Now if the guy with the weapon has any kind of armor on your chances are getting slimmer. You\'ll probably have more luck pounding through a brick wall than hurting someone wearing full plate armor with your fists and feet.

If we\'re talking about claws that is a completely different matter, I consider that the same as having a weapon so it\'d all depend on skill and luck.

This is based on reality ... based on PS well sure melee can beat swords but you\'ll never become invincible. Nobody will become invincible in PS since there are quite a few weapons that can kill with one blow, regardless of the attacker\'s skill or the defender\'s health.

There will be weapons for melee at some point, and I think that there will be shields and armours that deal melee damage as well.  The thing is, melee has never been the best thing to fight with.  Before the wipe, sword skill with sabre was the best.  Now, it\'s daggers, then small battle axes and shortswords at a close 3rd.

I\'m for. Though it does not make sense in the current version of the game.
Here is why I am for: the desciption in the game logs used to strongly suggest -and perhaps still does, I don\'t get out much these days- that it was one of the more powerful fighting skills available and that it had a wonderfull speed and damage ratio.  Sadly equipment was to be quite expensive.
Here is why it doesn\'t currently work: the martial styles, armor skills and equipment that would make it such a powerful skill, once properly trained and outfited are either nonexistant or not being trained properly by anyone. Untill a Master comes to town those of us who go the Melee rout are SOL, if you get my drift.
Now, I do agree with everyone that A) you would never walk into a war and yell, \"Bring it on punks!\" with not but your bare hands and B) a weapon is always better.  But some of you are missing the point that Melee will have weapons, of it\'s own sort.  Whether those are claws, (alla Vega from Street Fighter#? / Zhang He from Dynasty Warriors) simple gauntlets with spikes, or the \'touch of death\' we won\'t know untill we see \'em, but I sure hope it is wicked awsome.  :D :))
My three cents.

I don\'t think Vega would manage to defeat a fully armoured warrior if using his hands was all he could do :P

Well isn\'t there going to be armour which doubles as a melee weapon?

Don\'t tell me they\'re going to put fist-fighting (spikes, knuckle-duster, whatever) and shield-bashing in same group...

Ability to bash someone with a shield happens to progress as you train blocking with a shield...
I would know that...

Indeed Draklar I would not be saying Vega would beat a man in full plate or ring armor.
