Lots of fun?
« on: October 10, 2005, 09:07:38 pm »
Hello everyone.  I have just finished downloading the latest PlaneShift (Crystal Blue) client, and am about to embark on my RP journey.  Just a quick question though:  is this game good enjoyment for most of you? :-)

I use to play Arctic MUD all the time, and am coming from a lot of years experience w/ pretty popular RPG games, including everything from FF1 up to Shadowbane and World of Warcraft, and I\'m just looking for something more RP (and, hey, free!) like PlaneShift.  I\'m a hardcore developer/programmer and I might even be able to help out in this game\'s design and implementation.

I like to RP and this game appears to have a lot of RPers.  I\'m not expecting a lot since this game is in its early development stages, so though I am coming from WoW (which has a lot to it, but, frankly is boring and the community is filled with 12 year olds), I can make the most of PlaneShift.

Most will say \"Just play it and see for yourself\" which I intend to do regardless of what\'s posted here, but I just want some more opinions, if that\'s ok.

Thanks everyone.

Well, this game has eaten nearly two years of my life, without interruptions, so... yes, it is a lot of fun ;) Particularly when the great majority of the community is so awesome and RP-oriented. So welcome to PlaneShift, and I hope you enjoy your stay! You definitely sound like someone who will fit in, and if you decide to contribute in the end, people will build you shrines.

Okay, not really, but contributions and new team members are always loved :)
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

Thanks for the post, much appreciated.  Community is very important to me, and I\'m glad to hear such a promising review of PS\'s.  I checked out the Explorer\'s guild and it sounds like something I\'d be interested in.  Keep my name in mind, you\'ll see me around soon enough :-)

Is it normal for the Updater to have been updating for the past 3 hours and it\'s only at 3% total update?

That seems like an awful long update process :-(  Oh well, I can wait I suppose.

There are people who seem to have fun writing stories and poems based on the people who play, as well as visual art.  Others enjoy just building really strong characters and having them fight one another.  Others enjoy just going around, trying to hack and bug their way into secret or exotic areas.  Others enjoy manufacturing and participating in political and social intrigue and espionage.  Others enjoy approaching it from a philosophical perspective and use the system to communicate and discuss it and to allow reaction to it.  And there\'s the good old guild war to be fighting.  And you could always just standing around in the same place with the game in window mode and used it as a RP-flavoured instant messenger.....

it\'s because of me, right? my +5 in awesomeness just radiates so far outward that people who aren\'t even able to get IN the game are still just like \"oooohhhh Sekhemet!!! So awesome!!! i must be as close as possible to the awesomeness! gaah!!!\"

[i think i am in the biggest \"i love me\" mood today. XD]

Another and even more important thing from an RP POV is to read the \"Story\" section of the mainsite. Please be aware that it contains conflicting statements, imprecise sections and a lot of missing things. It takes some effort to iron these out, but even without doing so it still provides a good overview of the settings, especially the differences to conventional RPG worlds.

And yes, welcome!
