Suggestions for quests and more...
« on: October 14, 2005, 12:34:08 am »
Hello I\'m fairly new to the game, haven\'t found any quests though I\'m sure they\'re out there, but more is always better, eh?

I suggest giving more quests, particularly to the guys you first see when you start a new character (Perhaps make an intro that gives you a starter quest too?) I believe there\'s two towns (At the time), I\'m in the one where Kran start, with the sewers and the smith, unless where you start is random...

Anyhow, saying \"Add new quests\" is easy, so I\'ll take a step ahead and suggest some -

If you dont have time I suggest to avoid reading my post

Now, I understand that in order to be a good RPing quest, it shouldn\'t let you discover things (I.e. a murder solving quest wouldn\'t be very RP-like) So I tried my best to avoid these things and make the quests that most everyone is gonna do believable.

The quest -could- get started from one of the first two fellows in front of you when you start off. You tell them \"Hello\" (a turtorial telling you to do this would be nice)
and they respond.

\"Ah, hello there, what is it you need? If it\'s work you want I know of someone who would gladly give you something to do....would you like to know?

Yes/no (no would of course end the conversation)

\"His name is  Troy Lane, he lives in a manor not too far from here, over in -so-and-so(real directions would go here of course) He always blabs on and on about his crazy son. He was suicidal, everyone knows that, one night he finally snapped and jumped off the second floor of the manor. He left his rich family without an heir, sadly. The parents are too old to bear another youngin\'.

Anyhow, enough of that old gossip, head on out there if you want to know more, y\'hear?\"

The player would then head over to the manor, entering it they would see an old man and woman standing around in the first room they enter. You greet the old man and see him arguing with his wife...

\"Lana, for the last time he did not kill himself! Are you going to join the rest of the cityfolk who accuse me of being a crazy old coot?\" Troy rambles on a bit, it is difficult to understand what is saying.

The wife, Lana, says \"Oh Troy...just accept it, I hear your sister has finally had a son, perhaps we can finally get an heir...\"

Troy\'s face goes stern and then finally notices you, \"Ah, hello there, what brings you here, work?\"

Yes/No

\"Ehehehe, I knew my accusations would attract many, but what I tell you is the truth! I swear it!!\" Lana sighs after hearing this.

\"My son was not suicidal! A very nervous boy, sure..but not suicidal! Y\'see, for some reason he had a secret society after\'em! A secret bandit society I say!\" Lana sighs again even deeper.

Lana finally speaks out, \"Dear, the society exists, of that we are certain...but there is absolutely no proof that they hurt our dear child.\"

Troy speaks out loudly, \"I don\'t want to hear your opinion again, woman! Anyhow...these bandits, they are an elite few, they look no different than normal bandits except they carry something like this somewhere on\'em...\"

Troy takes a cloth red patch from the pouch on his side, he shows it to you. It depicts a bloody dagger and under the dagger there are the letters \'BB\'

\"These are their proof that they belong to the society. After careful thinking I\'ve figured out that they are called the \'Bloody Blades\'. Now...not all bandits are members of the Bloody Blades, but if you bring me patches that these fellows carry I will gladly reward you with some of my vast wealth. Or perhaps a custom piece of equipment that my private workers make for me?\" Troy grins geefully.

\"Now get to it! Slaughter all the bastards and avenge my bloodline!\" Troy coughs for a bit after having another yelling session then shoos you off.

The patches would, of course, drop off randomly from the bandits roaming about.

As for rewards, Troy will give you rewards according to how many patches you give him, the maximum amount of patches would be five. If you give him more than five he should say something like \"Hand me fewer at a time, as much as I hate to refuse so much precious vengence, my hands are too worn out to handle so many!\"

Rewards would slightly increase depending on how many you give him at a time, and since most equipment isn\'t available as of yet, I won\'t bother adding that. I was thinking something like basic \"newbie\" equipment -

1) 100t (trias)
2) 225t
3) 350t
4) 475t
5) 600t

(I\'m not sure if it\'s too much or too little, haven\'t had the expence with currency that is needed, really.)

Another quest suggestion -

Now, I\'m not sure if there\'s a background for the sewer\'s fanatic\'s yet, but I noticed they don\'t drop anything so I thought up of something....apologies of there is already a set story for them.

A man named Balan Lightheart stands near the Plaza\'s statue, saying loudly to those near him every once in a while -

\"Hear me, great people of this fine, fine city. There is a plague among us! Yes! A plague of evil sweeps our sewers, making the feeble minded to believe that our precious source of light is the source of all evil and seek to destroy it! Now, I beg of all of you, help me destroy these fanatics and their evil plans and I shall reward you!

If you ask Balan to \"Give me a quest\" he will say

\"Ah, have you heard about the evil fanatics?\"

If yes he will proceed with the following, if no he will use the paragraph above.

\"Ah yes, the fanatics like to roam the sewers, believing the light above us is evil. Seek them out and bring me the small red scarfs they wear on their arms, and I shall reward you with the potions that I create.\"

After giving him a scarf he will offer you a potion, now, I personally dont know what potions do so an explination of each would be nice.

I.e \"I can give you a red potion that does so-and-so or a blue potion that does blahblah ect.\"

He would also be a basic potion merchant.

Some more simple suggestions...

More spawn points though this is probably being worked on.

Roaming enemies and random places where they spawn (Probably also being worked on)

Mini-events like a group of bandits coming from behind a rock/tree ect ambushing people.

Well, this is the Wish list board and this was my Wish list. Have a nice day.

You do realize that \"complete\" quests that are posted on public forums will never be accepted into the game, right? :) You would\'ve been much better off contacting a member of the development team...

Exact (or partial) quests, monsters, and items that are made public before the team has a look at it, will not be included in PlaneShift.

Well to be honest I doubted any of it would go into the real game, just suggesting the -types- of quests that would be neat to have around.

Besides that I\'m a n00blar and dont know any development people.

Edit - On a side note, there\'s not much to be \"spoiled\" because even if they are implemented they would be basic well-known quests. So not sure why they have a rule like that....well for these in particular that is.

Quests have been undergoing a bunch of work lately, previous to this update they were not responding at all, and even now some steps are not working right. Pointless to add 100 quests if they will all have to be removed later :P More will be added as there is support.

Why is that, exactly?

This has been pointed out before in several threads :) Mainly because the devs are very keen on making everything a surprise, so only the most general ideas are taken from the Wishlist. I think the most recent other thread that brought a similar question was... this one.

Quests especially are not going to get put in-game if they are posted here, because a lot of the secret would already be known.

I see your point, but I bet most players don\'t read the forums.

New users are coming on all the time, I doubt they bother to read old posts. At best they read stickied threads.

The comment search is so terrible most people couldn\'t find spoilers if they wanted to. (I\'m not bitching at the project, it\'s not your fault this particular forum software has a crappy search feature)

Not much \"secrets\" to keep in the suggestions I made...not like people are gonna be surprised to find out that the \"BB\" I made up exists, everyones gonna find out about\'em first day  they put in a new quest.

Just my 2 cents about that little rule...

A rule is a rule and while it might not do much harm in this scenario it shouldn\'t be broken. If they\'d ignore their own rules now you would have people complaining that their ideas aren\'t being used everywhere. Some of those ideas might have a great deal of spoilers.

Besides it doesn\'t matter .. the devs decide how they make their game and what they put in, not we.

Your quest ideas are pretty good but if they used them it would go against their rules. They don\'t want any detailed information about quests, mining, item properties, character history creation, etc. available for public. So using this quest would go against that.
You could have just made a more vague suggestion and had the same result but I\'m sure you had fun thinking of those quests ;)
