Summary
« on: October 16, 2005, 08:01:09 pm »
Hi,
There is a lot of threads, a lot of posts and, in fact, a few ideas in this \"Wish list\" sub-forum. To organize it, I had started to write a summary on a personnal web page. But in order to allow anybody to collaborate, I have deleted it. (That may sound illogical, but read the following. :P ) Now you will find the summary at http://www.ps-mc.com/docs/index.php/Wish_list with a \"mediawiki system\".

This summary is at its first steps, your contribution is welcome. You could start by adding whishs from the \"Compilations of ideas\", wishs from thread(s) with star(s), and of course, your own\'s.

Note to moderators : Could this thread be sticked, please ? The thread \"Genral Design\" could be deleted too.

Zanzibar, that Compilation of Ideas thread is, sadly, completely useless ;) I\'ve been reading through the links for several hours now, searching for things that are not horribly outdated, already implemented or planned, or those that escape the boundaries of stupidity, and finding the number of such to be surprisingly low. The Wishlist Wiki project will be updated, then stickied, and the Compilation removed.

I\'ll help out with this a bit, if you want. Mostly I\'ll try to keep things organized, neat, and uniform, but I may move a few wishes over every once in a while.

Is there any format for moving the wishes over? Should whole posts be copied, or just bullet summaries?

[ Wishlist Wiki ]

I\'ve been working on Section 3 - Items, for now, using the Compilation thread as a start for threads with ideas. Basically it\'s summarizing the most agreed upon and sound suggestions. I use direct bits and pieces forum posters have written, edited (way too often, I may add :P) for spelling, grammar, and sentence structure. Doesn\'t seem too bad - it\'s just the thread reading that\'s driving me nuts. Can\'t you guys ever stay on topic for anything? ;)

Cha0s, and anyone else for that matter: help would be greatly appreciated! Just have to make sure that additions to the wiki will indeed be (detailed?) summaries, and not entire two-sided discussions.

*edited to add* Oh yes. And I\'m completely obsessive about things being alphabetized xD

The problem is that with any issue, there are multiple good ideas on how to go about doing it, how to solve it, etc.  There are many variations on each idea.  What I\'m saying is that there\'s no single way to do everything, there\'s a really diversity of opinions on every aspect of the game...

The best overview you can get is by referencing multiple sources and opinions.  With the wiki, there are very few authors.  With the countless threads in this forum, there are dozens upon dozens of different people contributing to the discussion.

But in the end (and there has to be an end), the devs aren\'t likely to have a strong desire to waddle through the old (often bordering on off-topic) posts for ideas a lot of people have agreed on. The most controversial/regularly updated threads/ideas aren\'t going to be put into the wiki until (or perhaps only when) some sort of conclusion is reached.

Ok, but the end result will be highly affected by the personal biases of the few individuals involved in writting it.  People with differing opinions won\'t care to contribute to the Wiki website since they already gave their 2 cents in the original threads.

As I said, I\'m trying to go with the majority opinion on ideas, though there definitely are cases when two sides are mentioned; e.g., carts idea - there is the side arguing for carts to disappear as characters do when players log off, and the side arguing for carts to remain in the game world. Both have been mentioned. I\'m trying to be as \"safe\" with this as I can, but then again, it IS a wiki - so anyone can edit with a summarization of a different view. As long as it will be a summarization, and not another discussion.

Ok, yes, but the discussion / the process itself is part of the content.  Maybe having a wiki is a good thing, but something is lost at the same time.

The discussion will be always the forum.
People can always, and are welcome, to post their ideas, point of view in the forum.

Omigosh, thread resurrection! It\'s aliiiive >.>

I must confess, I\'d completely forgotten about the wiki o.o

After looking at the wish list page, I think it is my duty to remind you that you\'re not limited to one page for everything. :P There are ways to divide a page into subpages (I don\'t have a link explaining that right now but I\'ll find one soonish). Also, discussion about a particular article could be conducted on the \"Talk\" page for that article (look at the \"discussion\" tab along the top ;) )

Edit: Here it is: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Link#Subpage_feature
