Turning Sound off doesn't work
« on: October 17, 2005, 10:59:01 pm »
Because my Client crashes pretty ofthen I tried to turn the sound off, but if I use the ingame Preferences-Dialog it doesnt do anything. I can still hear sound, altough I turned everything off.
This should be a Bug-Report, because I do know that you can turn sound off in the Setup.

If you\'ve turned off every sound option in your options, then yes it\'s a bug.  Just turn it off in pssetup for now.  Please wait until after the next big update to post any new bug reports like this.  It may or may not have already been fixed.

Okay I wasn\'t aware that the Client is updated so soon. Did I not-read a regarding Thread or is it just known to everyone else when to post Bug-Reports and when not to?

It\'s just that this bug doesn\'t affect everyone; I can turn off music, and it goes off.  (music, BTW, is the main part of the sound stuff that crashes)

Don\'t worry, you didn\'t miss a thread.  I\'m just telling you.  :P

Edited to add:
Just found out that there was a bug reported similar to this, and it is already on bugtracker.

Can you be a bit more specific in your problem?

You say your client crash so in Options (I guess that is what you are calling \"preferences\") you try to disable something.

What have you disable?
How?

We haven\'t declared when the update will be, therefore I think the only way for understanding if it is proper to write a bug report is: you might want to check the bugtracker (http://www.planeshift3d.com/bugtracker) for eventually find out that your problem has already been solved or at least it is evaluated by somebody, in that case I would recommend to write down some more comment in the bug.
If you cannot find the bug there I recommend to add a new one, so that somebody can look into it.

No I wasnt saying that the client crashes if I change something in the Option, I wanted to express that because of the crashes I wanted to disable the sound (especially music) to get rid of one possible source of bugs.
During the steps needed to do that I was getting aware of the fact that you can\'t actually turn off sound in the Options-Menu of my client. But I think this bug is already registered at the bugtracker.

I haven\'t been writing that your client crashes when you disable something, I wrote \"you say your client crash so etc.etc.\", I should have been writing for a perfect english, crashes :D

Now, my question again: what have you exactly been doing in the options?

Well heres a description:
1.) Opened the Options-Menu
2.) Disabled \"Background music\"
3.) Disabled \"Ambient sound\"
4.) Disabled \"Auction sounds\"
5.) Disabled \"Interface sounds\"
6.) Clicked on \"Save\"
Well and after I took those steps, nothing changed!

And which output system did you set up in the \"PlaneShift Setup\" utility (pssetup)?

Under Windows, the \"DirectSound\" option works quite stable for me.

Under Linux, you may prefer \"Software\".

As \"last hope\", you can even try disabling sound in the setup tool.

Iam playing under Windows XP Pro and the \"DirectSound\" Option is red. I\'ve choosen \"Software\". Sorry for not mentioning that, I just forgot to do so.

Under Win2K, \"Software\" was more buggy than \"DirectSound\" for me. It was probably fixed meanwhile.
