Why a guild?
« on: November 18, 2002, 10:10:23 pm »
Okay, so I\'m new.  But if the game is going to be PvP by player consent (duels or whatnot) and there is no territory to wrestle from enemy guilds, why form or join a guild at all.  (Aside from social reasons, of course.)

Maybe I missed something, but it seems to me that this game will be mostly PvE.

Im not going outta my way to get flamed here, just was wondering if I did in fact miss some point or another.

Feedback is good.

Sylk.

1. There is more reasons for to be in guilds besides killing other people

2. When there is a guild war you will be able to PK the other guild members anywhere

kk?

I did say that there are at the least social reasons to join a guild.  I will even go so far as to say that it is nice to have a group of people you know to choose adventuring companions from and to have access to other people for information and assistance in other matters, but in the games I am familiar with, the biggest reason to form/join a guild is to stay alive in the midst of a PvP world.  Or in the case of AC to get a lot of free XP\'s as the monarch.

But Guild wars... that is something I missed.

Yeah, but it expands way further than that.
I mean, the way I look at it, mainly guilds will be able to afford, or get the real nice and fancy houses. I would even go as far as a castle. Also, yeah, the territory to control will be an issue, or atleast I hope so. And maybe finally, a guild is like a massive bank. If you can\'t get something by yourself, or don\'t have enough money for a piece of armor, you can always lay back on the older, stronger members of the guild to help you. I would be willing to show the newbies around, if, or when I am at a high level.
So yeah, join up! :D

Well Sylk, nothing has really been decided yet. And I bet that no matter what happens, there will be some sort of PvP. Not only in guild wars, but in the everyday life. :D Of course, I can\'t defend my say in any way but still - I doubt there is any MMORPG out there _WITHOUT_ some sort of PvP. ;)

Why a guild? Good question Sylk.

I thought it was kinda planned that many game elements would necessitate the need for group co-operation, making guild membership an attractive option, whether it\'s PvP, PvE, or even just achieving certain tasks.

I\'ve never really gone in for the guild life in the past, so I hope that guild life will bring some exciting and exclusive options to the game world and the gameplay. Whatever the outcome, the advancement of your guild will be satisfying in itself and I think a guild will give you more of a sense of belonging - somewhere to call home. I can\'t wait to take up arms with my fellow guild members :D

Why A guild? I realy don\'t see many advatages to the (virtual) life in a guild, sure, thare probably be some but there will also be disadvantages...

I, for one, won\'t join a guild... there will probably be, beside guilds, groups of \"friends\" in the final game, who can help one another...
Maybe that one day I will help some guild members of one guild and another day it could be a member of an enemy guild...

And if the game will be PvP, I don\'t think that there will be many people that will kill a single person with a group (or am I wrong, I hope not ;))...

If you end up adventuring in a group of friends, then surely that is virtually a guild anyway, why not join together and reap the benefits that the guild status may offer you? Although the lone warrior is I suppose an attractive and romantic vision.

I look forward to trying to persuade you otherwise ;)

Well, I prefer to call a group of adventuring friends a party, like it is called in many single player computer RPGs ;)
Maybe a party like that will solf a quest, or make enemys and/or new friends, but with such a party things like allignment is of a less crucial role

Like I said above, one minute I could help an evillike character and the next minute I could help an goodlike ;)
I don\'t think a guild would apriciate if I would help someone of an enemy guild of them :D

Sounds like you might be quite suited to the kind of work Kiern\'s BISM gets involved in. You could then help a variety of people in different guilds and alignments, whilst making a little money on the side and keeping your individuallity ;)  (hmmm, I must be getting a little more mercenary in my old age :P )

Some quests will be only allowed for guilds, and possibly the bigger buildings too...

...as for me, I would probably not join a guild, if it was not for Alucard, I would not be in one...because I do not like to choose sides :P ;)

Maybe I\'ll do things for money, maybe I\'ll do things for free, maybe I don\'t do it at all...

Well then, you could always form your own guild. One that stands for all of your principles with no restrictions on alignment.

I myself am currently a part of the Dark Empire which is a lawful evil aligned guild but I myself (well my character) am not lawful evil. I consider alignment by the current D&D third edition rules btw so we may have to change our statuses if and when the PS crew comes up with their own set of rules.

That is not exactly correct, we will do anything, but we will not make our members do anything....if you don\'t want to do a job, don\'t do it, it is completly voluntary since we are not a guild, so we cannot control you and do not want to :P
