Problems with 3.012 update
« on: October 24, 2005, 12:15:41 pm »
:O ahhhh....mmkay, the problem as of recent with the new update is, once I have instaled it (updater says is up to date) and, I go to log in and it still tells me the I do not have the most recent verson, or something of the like. Is this a Mac only problem? I even down loaded the recent ver. of jar. I had no real problems until this update. Also, there is not as of yet a binary for Mac auto update; perhaps it\'s coming in the future?
Anyone know how to fix this problem?
?(

Sorry, we need a mac builder to make the mac binaries, and none seem to be available as of yet  ?(
Of course, as with any update it has been crashing a lot, so you are not missing much ;)
player -> gm -> dev -> bum

Listen to some music while we wait for the update to occur. Thanks for the info, it was driving me up the walls not knowing. Well, not really, but I made some cool music in the meanwhile.  :]

I\'m going to try to use dfryer\'s scripts to get the build done. Be patient and cross your fingers!

I\'m not trying to be a pest. I just need to get a better idea of when the new build will be done and the server will be accepting mac connections so I can plan my life a little more definitively. I mean, are we talking hours? days? weeks? or months? Whatever your answer here, please understand, I\'m not going to hold you to it and start bitching when it doesn\'t happen and I hope no one else here will either. I\'ve worked in software development and I do know how frustrating it can be and how hard it is to give a solid answer to this question. I\'m just very excited about this game and haven\'t got to play it at all yet. I\'ve read almost all the decent forums, the whole players manual, and already have a guild picked out. I mean, I\'m ready.

No pressure, just an honest estimate with actual units of time involved would be so helpful.

TIA

How Long?  I was in your boots once while waiting for update to 0.3.009 and  i believe it took a very long time from a players viewpoint.  But I did prepare by reading all the Mac messages and various other themes.

You say, you did software development.  Maybe you could try starting up and developing an update yourself?

Also the players handbook is rather outdated and sometimes misleading.  Predefined paths are almost useless.   I posted info on predefined paths in the Newbie section and in comparing all the 6 paths listed for Enkidukai (which I play) I discovered that for The race, Enkidukai, a male, basic is Str 55, Agil 85, End 50, Int 40, will 70, char 50 and for each of the defined paths that is what you also get.    Each of the paths get 5-6 skills which can be trained higher.
However if you customize your character, you can start with upwards of 30-40 skill points.   Also you should use all your character points to develop your character but do not go to a minus level which will cause the game to reject your character.    Also skill points in areas that have not been implemented are nice to look at but I doubt if they are of much value.
:)
Also since ChaOs will probably look at this,  I think ChaOs should have an assistant to post the message to newbies that trying to get on just does not work until an Updater is created and he and Dfryer should spend what time they have in developing the Update and not have to worry about dealing with  messages?

It will take a few days (for some value of \"few\"!) to get things working.  They\'re still having some problems on the back-end as well with NPCs, so I don\'t think you\'re REALLY missing much.  I\'ll try to commit a reasonable portion of my time to fixing things up, I\'ve definitely been absent and slack.

Thanks!

Thanks muchly for the estimate. I know you guys are working hard on this. I don\'t envy you at all. I only wish I could help, but alas, all my development experience is in user interface design and not so much coding so I would only get in the way. I guess I really will have to find something else to do this weekend! I wish you guys all the best.

We don\'t know when it will be finished, but we are working on it. \"A few days\" is an estimate. Don\'t hold us to it or... you will feel my wrath... *evil grin*
