great blade
« on: October 25, 2005, 12:48:05 pm »
ok so i am  really pushin the poly count with this  at 244 polygons but i just dug it up along with a few other things like the one shape short sword. a bunch of things i had forgotten and left to rot in my 3d moddels folder.   it was originally 324 or somthing ridiculous but i  changed it.  to much a fancy handle. lol.
but have have fun with it anyway:

That\'s a pretty messy model...

In general you shouldn\'t have n sided faces, and you especially shouldn\'t have concave n sided faces (or concave quads for that matter).

yeah its very messy.  i did this model when i was pretty new to  moddeling. but i have gone back and redid the whole blade  now. and  lowered the polys  to 206.

much nicer, I can look at it now :P all those distorted poly\'s where killing me :o You could still stand to lose quite a few poly\'s from the handle, and that ring should be made in from a 3 sided cylinder, with 8 sides like an octagon (could even do 5)

Example:

It needs a handle in the top part of the blade.  It\'s too big and clumsy to use like a normal sword, but if you can get a good grip of it you could use it just by using sheer physical strength to drive and grind it deep into the tissues and organs of your prey.

well seeing as i got the inspiration from nightmare (soul calibur) then yeah it is definatly top heavy to say the least ... and i was indeed going for the  sheer strength factor rather than any fancy swordsman ship....
swing it  in an arc and disembowel several hundred people :P

ah i didnt know i could do that. i forgot there was the little box things. but yeah its done. and the poly count has just dropped to 93 :D :D :D.  i used the second example with 5 sides.  thanks for that. no dubt it\'ll help alot later on. and to be cdompletly honest i wasnt that happy with it the way it was eirther. but at the time i had been playing around with it for so long i just thought \"&%^$ it\" and left it and then forgot about it. until yesterday when i saw the name and wondered what it was.

You wouldn\'t be able to use it effectively no matter how strong you\'d be.
Take two small (best metal) objects: One balanced close to where you hold it and one balanced far from it. Then swing them around. The latter will be so slow that dodging/parrying it wouldn\'t be any problem.
