I read those 3 posts just now, and I can\'t believe it, I didn\'t take any major part in the off-topicism, just a few simple replies, maybe Venge doesn\'t hate me as much as he tells me.

I have just read everything down now, and I theoritically agree with some people about things going too far and the need to stop them (I can remember some too long threads this summer, it\'s often hard to stop argumentations...).
But then I read the three candidates to deletion. I can\'t agree. I don\'t really see any problem with them, they\'re perhaps not about the game, but they can be interesting for the community, or a part of it. Anyway, they\'re not aggressive or anything. People should be able to decide if they want to read it or not. The only way post-deletion can be accepted is for freeing space disk on the server, and I don\'t think it is a major problem.
So, I definitively vote against censorship, and support the motion for an off-topic forum, just to improve the organisation.

And Athelas, I don\'t know who you are or how long you played my mud, but sorry to see your comments. Believe me, running a board whilst keeping it vaguely civil which is populated by hardcore net gamers isn\'t easy =). Fyi, whilst you may have had your differences with an imm (I have no idea who), things have changed a bit, for example aennor quit (who was the most deletehappy imm) and we recorded a new high of 212 people online recently.

Nass,
WoTMUD.org

AAAAAAGGGGHHHH!!

OMG!  That was such a scary post!

I try to find a nice out-of-the-way game, and Nass comes back to haunt me!

Ergh!

Anyway, ;) If Nass still is reading this, I am giving WoTMUD another try.  However, reading the General boards from WotMUD (which I copy-and-pasted into a nice word document for my reading enjoyment) did not give me the best impression of the power structure.  If you remember a certain thread about Cashel vs. Exvel, and Mikaela vs. the world (well, world-WT)...well...never mind.  I\'m trying again with a cleared and open mind :)

>I\'ve found that the best approach when you start
>getting flamefests between people that won\'t back
>down is generally to drop them a mail rather than
>publicly deleting or locking threads (which usually
>prompts 5 new threads of \'my right to free speech\').

...which are summarily deleted.  I tried a post about my findings in the forum, but it was repeatedly deleted until I made a post about deleting this post was proving my point.  The post was locked  :P

Anyhoo...I hope to see Nass again in WoTMUD, and the rest of you in PS.

OK, done with my self-indulgent post, you folks can go back on topic.

Oh, and as for saving disk space, I suppose old/inactive posts can be deleted.  Would an \"archive\" area, which was un-post-in-able, save any space?  I ask because some forums have those, and always thought that that was the function.

In addition, once the game is up, to reduce costs, I propose that a signiture-pic-size limit should be imposed to reduce server strain and extend server life.

Example: Elentor and I make silly stories on the RP board. You can call them off topic, since they aren\'t meant to be serious. Do you guys think posts such as those should be deleted? I don\'t think so.
<Worf> These are the moments when my ego gets put back on the ground. I use linux for quite some time, and am soon 2 years maintainer of a linux distribution. I started to think I would be good at it. But then I tried to get planeshift running.

Actually Para those very posts crossed my mind when reading this thread. They are indeed inane but I think it would be a shame to delete them! Crack me up every time , love the \"illustrations\". I would consider them an example of \"good inanity\" if there is such a thing.

I very much doubt that disk space is a problem, bandwith maybe, but old posts won\'t hurt that, I don\'t know about other people, but I spammed hard to get Tripel-Ass, and I don\'t wont to be Cool Newbie again.

Oh, and Nass, the horrid forums you are talking about are the garbage forums.  There is still a Player\'s lounge for un-on-topic stuff.  Please put one in here too.

I couldn\'t show examples of flames and *really* stupid stuff, because I delete it immediately when I see it.  :-)

The fans have spoken.  I will get a little bit stricter about off-topic posts but I will leave the posts which seem to further the community.

Furthermore, I will see to it that people get banned if they repeatedly and willfully break the rules.

Venge I hope you intend on following through on this and I understand your time is limited but there seem to be a plethora of posts that should have been deleted pooping up this past week.

I more or less check the forums daily.  I skipped a couple here because I was travelling due to the Thanksgiving holidays.

If you think I am overlooking something, you can always click the \"report\" button on the post you dont\' like and I will get an email immediately about it, ensuring that I don\'t overlook it.

I think that it is fine to implement such a thing, but not too strict.

Though this isn\'t needed too much yet because there is little to talk about, and the community is small.
