Silly weapon names.
« on: October 29, 2005, 08:50:19 pm »
I like how there\'s a bigger variety of weapons, but the names should be less stupid. I mean, come on, \"frosty short sword of twilight\"? that\'s the dumbest thing ever.

:( I think we should show a little more respect to the people who develope this game. They have far more pressing responsibilities with fixing bugs and other sorts of problems. So if they want to name a sword frosty short sword of the twilight, let them!! It is their right, they created the game. ;) You better hope Talad doesn\'t read this thread or you might be struck down by his all mightyness........

It isn\'t a great name, and the game could only be made better by changing it.  Pointing it out isn\'t causing any harm to the game at all so quit acting like it is.

Nyah, it should be removed completely.
It should only have weapons like
Iron Longsword, Fine Steel Shortsword, Rusty Iron Dagger, Ruined Copper Longsword, etc...

Otherwise it\'ll just be hack&slash wannabe.

Enchanted weapons shouldn\'t have different names then regular weapons?

If that\'s what you\'re saying...

There shouldn\'t be enchanted weapons at all.
1) If they will be made common, people will whine that weapons have too large power. If they will be made rare, power-levelers will be the only ones to have them and pretty much will rule the fighting side of the game.
2) Looking at the tabletop games; Those which eliminated (or highly reduced) possibility of coming across such weapons, usually have stronger role-play base than those which made them quite common.
3) Fancy weapons most likely will take attention away from various non-fighting jobs, as if insinuating that fighting is the main point of the game (Well either that or we\'ll have Thunder Pick Axe of Gold Finding, Frosty Leash of Groffel Training, Fire Hammer of Sword Smithing, etc - which would make sense, since who says only weapons should be enchanted? But it would make things ridiculous none the less).

Not really, as those are very specific (which I mentioned wasn\'t very good).  Enchanting a dagger in, say, the red way versus the examples you gave me is a very big difference.  Surely it seems like it should be possible, maybe only for a limited amount of time as the magic wears off, but eliminating it completely?  That\'s a little over the top...

It works like charm actually. People never think about such weapons and rather concentrate on their skills and abilities. They use their brain cells to achieve what they want, rather than bash their way through. When weapons lack magic abilities, even the tinest weapon characteristics become very important and someone will go around with few types used in various situations, rather than a single, over-powered sword.

I mean i could\'nt careless if it was called \"The Ulber nOOb weapon of hell\" as long as it can cause damage thats all you should care about.

Theres a lot more important things the Dev\'s need to be working on atm.

But that is my point...just because a weapon is enchanted doesn\'t mean it has to be over-powered, it should just deal a different type of damage, which makes its own benefits and drawbacks.  That would, in fact, increase the thinking going into what weapons to choose...which is what you seem to want.

I agree with you on the other points, however, I just don\'t think it should be obliterated entirely.

As such I don\'t see any harm in it. Agreed.
