Me too, with the Linux client; output as per Danok\'s message.

But at time of writing, 31 are playing... so its not a global problem.

If you are running the Linux client, then the updater does not update psclient. It just updates art and configuration files. You have to apply the latest pach from Xordan that can be found here.

I think you get the timeout error if there is a mismatch in database versions. Server has one version and your client wants another version.

It time-outs when loading the world for me too. I can\'t delete characters, or make new ones (It\'ll let me into the select race bit, but not any further - next button won\'t work)
I downloaded and joined about a week ago, and updated it when I downloaded it.

It\'s only been doing this for the past two days, if that means anything to you.

I\'m feeling deprived :\'(

I\'ve got nothing to do with linux, and haven\'t got a clue about the technical side of things.

Is it something at my end or at the server\'s end?

Would the rats being impervious to attack have anything to do with it?

If you downloaded and updated the game a week ago, then your client needs to be updated again because the server software was upgraded once more just few days ago.

If you are using Linux, then a patch can be found here.

So, how do I get the widgets working, now that I\'ve dealed with the timeout thing?

If you get complaints about the small inv not loading, then you will want this file from CVS:

http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/*checkout*/planeshift/planeshift/data/gui/smallinventory.xml?content-type=text%2Fplain&rev=1.3

Copy it to planeshift/data/gui/smallinventory.xml, and you will have to mark it read only so the updater doesn\'t erase it everytime.....

Has there been some new updates as of the past few hours (1pm CST here)?

Here has been my past 24 hours or so..

--I get the message discussed in this thread

--I update - about 24MB = 2 hours

--I get ingame but get in an infinite loop of spawning in the death realm in mid air and plummeting to my death.  I am advised to update.

--I update again using -auto - another 17MB = 90 mins.
Too late, time to go to bed.

--I start update (with -auto again)...another 12MB = 90 mins (speed is even slower than last night!)

--I remember that I had problems with key shortcuts so before I get ingame, I edit the key_def.xml file and get things just right.

--I start the game and get the same message again...\"timeout waiting for world to load.\"  X(

--I start updater again only to find another 17MB update! (including the key_def.xml file)

?(  Baaaah!

Perhaps by the time my update is done, another update is required?  :P

I\'m not complaining, really.  I realize that everything is in development.  So its ok, I\'m patient.  I just thought I would recap events since last night for entertainment purposes.  ;)

Go to planeshift directory.
Edit updaterconfig.xml
Change active id = 1 for active id = 3
3 will select the 3rd mirror, which is the only one so far that\'s proven to have a correct DR version. Once updated you\'ll find that you spawn where you\'re supposed to in the DR.

I was able to get in game (haven\'t tried your tecnique yet Nilrem) for awhile.  I just tried again and got the same message.  I had just updated 5 minutes ago.  (Only a 20 minutes update this time  :) ).  So I updated again and it only downloaded the trepor.zip file.  For some reason, that one has occurred in every update I have done.

update: after repeated timeout messages I changed the active id (thanks, Nilrem).  Got another 17MB update but this one took 2 mins!!   8o   I was only getting speeds of 4-8 kB/s off the default mirror.  Here I was up to 300kB.  You mean I have been suffering with these slow updates all this time for nothing??

I really have to pay more attention to the forums.
