Can't get past Race & name creation

Hi,
I\'m newb
I\'m having problems getting into the game.  specificaly, i can\'t get past the screen for entering name/race etc.  clicking either of the available forward buttons has no effect.  no error messages are displayed.  i was listening in on irc earlyer, and it apeared someone else had a similar problem, no solution was found.  

Running : fedora core 4, 9800 with ati drivers, firewall configured to allow udp on the relevant ports, with the latest game version fully updated.

I just ran the updater twice, got one small file.
the problem persists.
Any other ideas?

Hi,
 
  Same problem here after 3 updates. I can set new name, select gender and select class. The PATHS or NEXT buttons do not do anything. The Next button seems to work though since, if I write the character name manually, the info box about naming rules is launched. I have tried manual and random name.

I , too , am suffering from this problem . I have retried and retried several times . The updating I haven \' t done seeing as I JUST updated before I got on a few minutes ago and have JUST gotten the game . I was so looking forward to playing this game. But to have my first impression of it be bad .. full of problems ... My interest may wane very fast .

Hm, I am noticing a lot of users with this problem are on linux- are there any on windows at all? And those on linux used Xordan\'s installer? And you did use the seperate download patch, right?

im using windows XP SP2 and was having this problem a few days ago.  i already had a character created and he loaded fine but when i attempted to create a new one i got this problem.  

this was some time ago, about a week so i dont know if its still happening.  i asumed it was a problem with the server, see the link posted by Pogopuschel.

Yeah, i just downloaded this game to try it but i cant even create char.... : (

i\'m also using win xp sp2, could some1 do something about this problem, i wanna see is this game worth of downloading as it took 4 hours...

Hi there! I\'m a rookie in MMORPG and have heard of this one.
I\'m stuck! If I want create a hero, I got some error message and the game shut down. I\'m a user of win XP.

Greetings!

As always, we don\'t know just what error message you are getting if you don\'t give us any clues about it ;) There were no messages mentioned in this thread to begin with, so you\'ll have to help us out and type the message nearly exactly as you saw it. Or just take a screenshot.

As precautions, have you updated (perhaps in recover mode, check Start -> Programs -> PlaneShift Crystal Blue -> PlaneShift Updater (Recover Mode)), and disabled sound through the PlaneShift setup?

Thats because there is no message. Clicking to \'Next\' button does nothing other than make a clicking sound.

However I ran update again and it now works.
