Current 3.012 problems and suggestions.
« on: November 06, 2005, 12:19:56 am »
For those of you experiencing \"Unexpected Quit\" problems:

Since these fixes are embedded in another thread, I thought I\'d repost them here.  Currently it seems that the updater is not grabbing files in the root directory properly.  For people who *could* run 3.011, I hope that these work.  If you *couldn\'t*, then I\'m interested in console or crash logs.
First:

Open updaterconfig.xml and change the section to:

This won\'t affect running but will take the load off laanx when we get updater mirrors working.

Secondly, open psclient.cfg and change the line:
Planeshift.GUI.Skin.Ingame = default
to:
Planeshift.GUI.Skin.Ingame = /this/art/skins/default.zip

Then try running the updater and starting psclient!

I\'ve just updated my updater to include these changes, and until we can figure out what\'s going on with the normal updater, you can use it. I\'ve added a speed indicator, random mirror selection, and better time estimation.

If anyone does get the normal updater working correctly (i.e. updating the root directory), please tell us so we can try to figure out what\'s going on.

Open updaterconfig.xml and change the section to:   quoted from Dfryer message.

When I opened that file, the 5 mirrors where already fixed.

Also my folder said

updaterconfig.xml   Yesterday, 2:13 PM    8 KB  XML P...ist File

I ran the updater.app file yesterday and it seemed to work although the window was small with black background and was very hard to read to unreadable.

Also dfryer stated:
Secondly, open psclient.cfg and change the line:
Planeshift.GUI.Skin.Ingame = default
to:
Planeshift.GUI.Skin.Ingame = /this/art/skins/default.zip
end of quote
This also was fixed in my PS folder
psclient.cfg      Yesterday, 1:44 PM    8KB   Document

And you\'re unable to start psclient?

I am sorry,  I must have misunderstood you.  But for a while yesterday I could not start psclient.app.  I had done a partial try at using updater.jar and aborted it before it was done because I had read ChaOs\'s guild which said move the updater to the PS folder and click upgrade all files which I had not done.  I then moved the updater.jar to the PS folder and ran it.    Then I noticed that some of the files (on my desktop) were newer than those in my PS folder and so  I  moved and replaced those that were newer in the folder.   After that when I tried to get on I got a black screen and got nowhere using psclient.     But after doing a full downloard using updater (standard) I had no trouble starting psclient.   What I said in the previous message was done after the full updater.app

Hrmmm... what might have happened is that you might have gotten the root files with my updater (the files on the desktop), and then copied them in. And then you got the rest of the files from the normal updater. I\'m not sure there\'s any good way to test this, though.

I was getting the same thing, psclient would start then just die. Here is how i got it working:

I ran the updater.jar file from the ps root directory. This updated to the newest version, but would quit out all the time before the main screen could pop up.

So i thought what the heck, I clicked on the update program and it connected and downloaded a very small amount of files. To my amazement it worked.

Hope this helps.

cobracon: when did you do this? I put my updater up ~15 hours ago.
Also, can you find out which files it downloaded?

did, as you recommended (editing updaterconfig.xml and psclient.cfg):

updater still says, everything is up-to-date. although the finder says, psclient is v. 0.3.11

pssetup still crashes at startup

Here\'s the errorlog:

Quote
Command: pssetup
Path:    /Applications/Spiele/Planeshift3D/pssetup.app/Contents/MacOS/pssetup
Version: 0.3.011 (0)
PID:     428
Thread:  Unknown

Link (dyld) error:

dyld: /Applications/Spiele/Planeshift3D/pssetup.app/Contents/MacOS/pssetup can\'t open library: /sw/lib/libfreetype.6.dylib  (No such file or directory, errno

psclient seems to run now.
unfortunately the server broke down, when i was attempting to create a charakter :( so i have no further experiences. but the splash-screen says now: \"Warning! Planeshift performs better in 24 or 32 Bit Color Mode!\" or something like that. my system runs on 32 bit colors. maybe its because of the pssetup?

Search and you\'ll find out about pssetup. As for the warning, ignore it, it\'s wrong. As for the finder version message, ignore that too. Dfryer was too lazy to update things to make it say 3.012. :P I wouldn\'t complain, though... the game works. ;)

I can not open pssetup either and mine is still has date modified Aug 11, 2005
However pssetup.cfg date mod is Yesterday 1:44 AM
              psclient.cfg date mod is Yesterday 1:44 AM
              psclient       date mod is Sep 5, 2005, 9:08 PM
              vfs.cfg        date mod is yesterday 1:25 AM
              Updater.jar   date mod is Oct 29, 2005, 11:59 PM

psclient tonight ran quite well whereas during the day it crashed after a few minutes 2 or 3 times.   NPCs are still invincible though.    But mining worked.

I can give you the logs from both forms of the updater, if you want.  Standard updater is rather short but the updater.jar is very long.

New Updater.jar available for download (see the Guide for the link). It should fix any lingering bugs, especially when updating without a config file. This also explains some of the weirdness with Updater.jar (I missed a small null pointer issue...).
