Name Restictions?
« on: November 06, 2005, 09:14:34 pm »
Would there be any name restrictions for someone trying to create a guild but this is my Idea for a name of a guild but I don\'t want anyone getting mad.  Thunder Gods would that be against the rules or would it be okay?

Generally, in terms of actual naming rules, you aren\'t allowed to have any OOC references, preferrably no acronyms, and of course nothing with veiled insults, attacks, etc. \"Thunder Gods\" isn\'t likely to be forced into a change, but it does make me wonder at the actual guild behind the name, the thing you will be judged on most :)

Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

Well the thing is, you just have to be able and explain why you have such a name in PS.  How does it fit in?  If you cant think of any reason on how you can get it to blend with PS then its likely a bad idea.  Can you make up a somewhat feasible reason for having this guild according to PS history and whatnot?

Edit: O.o Karyuu beat me.. well either way.. ditto :).

Ok thanks, I\'ll think of a reason and story for guild and get back to this later.

Just as a tip, you are supposed to have the actual structure and reasoning behind the guild first ;) Working from the name down has never worked, as far as I\'ve seen.

Yeah, thats what we did with SoR at the beginning.. whcih would explain the adjustments here and there and a complete makeover 8 months later or so.  So, make the guild as best you can.. and dont forget to try and constantly make it better.

Ok, I\'ll work on the structure first.  I\'m not planning to start it soon anyways.  Just starting to get ideas and tips from other people.  The reason why I want it to be Thunder Gods is because it sort of takes after my favorite Kiss Song \"God of Thunder\" I\'ll think of other names also Thanks for helping.

This name is a bit weird knowing your OOC guild avatars are Kiss - God of Thunder but if you have a good guild outline and the such then it would be fine

Aye, this sort of reasoning has been attempted before. However, it\'s not good. It is completely OOC, and I can\'t see any way to justify that name inside PS.

What you need is
1) an IC purpose that isn\'t already filled by another guild
2) an IC background that ties in neatly with the PS settings
3) a structure that fits the resulting guild and works to serve as infrastructure
4) a whole lot of dedication to maintain the guild

While I perfectly see that it is superficially appealing to have a \"cool sounding name\" (subject to personal preference, obviously) under your name, that\'s not what the guild system is for. By simply trying to imagine the guild in RL medieval times many of the unfitting cases can be immediately detected, as can the reason why naming a guild in an improper way or founding one just for the name isn\'t actually cool.

The DC is already on the edge (as are several others), but Gods of Thunder just won\'t work at all AFAICS. (reminds me of \"The Gods of War\", a truly noob guild that lived for a week or so IIRC)

So before wasting a lot of time trying to somehow force-fitting the OOC name into PS, and later on wasting lots of ingame money (and the effort obtaining it) just to have a short-lived non-guild I think it should be done the right way. Purpose, history, structure, name.
