Incredible Lag
« on: November 12, 2005, 04:23:43 am »
My client suddenly lags into impossible bearing. I\'m near Levrus\' Magic Shop and I can stand a few minutes there, but after a while it gets frozen.

Code: [Select]
planeshift.application.client:
  PSLoader: step 5: success

HandleDeadReckon
:
Got DR message for unknown entity 686.

Got DR message for unknown entity 686.

Got DR message for unknown entity 686.

Got DR message for unknown entity 686.

HandleDRData
:
Skipping out of date StatDR packet for \'665\', version 248 not 0.

Skipping out of date StatDR packet for \'Target\', version 248 not 0.

SetDRData
:
Ignoring DR pkt version 194 for entity Taser Rander with version 200.

Ignoring DR pkt version 74 for entity Sintu Relon with version 84.

Ignoring DR pkt version 230 for entity Acia Ara with version 230.

HandleDRData
:
Skipping out of date StatDR packet for \'674\', version 156 not 0.

Skipping out of date StatDR packet for \'Target\', version 156 not 0.

SetDRData
:
Ignoring DR pkt version 9 for entity Karyuu Muattaleel with version 11.

This is what my xterm was reading when I got the tremendous lag.
Disclaimer: This is my opinion and I can be reasoned with. I'm probably right, though.

I am currently standing at the end of the stairs to the Kada-El\'s tavern and the client is literally hanging with 0 fps. After making some small modifications to the sources I see that a Gobble with ID 62 is added and removed at very fast rate.
Code: [Select]
93.655 + Actor Gobble(62) Received
93.740 - Actor Gobble(62) Removed
93.740 + Actor Gobble(62) Received
93.824 - Actor Gobble(62) Removed
93.824 + Actor Gobble(62) Received
93.917 - Actor Gobble(62) Removed
93.917 + Actor Gobble(62) Received
94.004 - Actor Gobble(62) Removed
94.004 + Actor Gobble(62) Received
94.086 - Actor Gobble(62) Removed
94.086 + Actor Gobble(62) Received
94.170 - Actor Gobble(62) Removed
94.171 + Actor Gobble(62) Received
94.262 - Actor Gobble(62) Removed
94.262 + Actor Gobble(62) Received
94.360 - Actor Gobble(62) Removed
94.360 + Actor Gobble(62) Received
94.471 - Actor Gobble(62) Removed
94.472 + Actor Gobble(62) Received
94.573 - Actor Gobble(62) Removed
94.574 + Actor Gobble(62) Received
94.640 - Actor Gobble(62) Removed

The number at the beginning is a number of seconds (csGetTicks()/1000.0). The same Gobble(62) is added and removed 11 times during one second.

As I can see it:
  • Makes the client to slow down or even hang because it is busy adding and removing actors
  • Adds extra network traffic
  • Probably adds extra load to the server

Could the NPCClient suffer from similar problems?

I am having the same problems as you.
i was walking near the stairs up to the Tavern in Hydlaa.
and suddenly my client froze and can\'t do anything anymore.
i am using P4 too and PS uses 97% of my processor for some reason.
Greetings,

Tarel Barilele

It seems we have found the alien Gobbles, that Ganinos speaks of in his tales.

These that have the power to freeze us in our tracks, have been lurking all this time, and his Ale-soaked warning was one to heed, after all.

I pray, that these unknown entities, having shown themselves to Sangwa, and taken the form of Gobbles, for Bereror, will be dealt with swiftly by the gods.

For surely this has been the source of our troubles with Lag, and random monster appearances, all along.
