A little idea about map loading
« on: November 13, 2005, 11:43:03 pm »
I think there a little thing that could be done to be less bored by the loadings of maps. If it was possible, it would be great, i think to be able to chat while  loading map . So advisors could answer to requests, and when in a group , you can speak with your friend
what do you think about this ?

[i hope my english will not be too awful.. i\'m french ]

It would be great, but you may need to use a seprate program (or possibly chat off a different port) for this.
I'm taking a shower.  Don't think of me as dirty, naked will do just fine ;)

PS Folder --> Pssetup --> Load all maps...

Then you only have a (long) loading at the beginning...

Yeah... I don\'t see this happening.  When you\'re loading, pretty much everything is devoted to loading; you don\'t really have any power to spare for chatting.  (if you do, then your loads are probably quite fast ;) )  Additionally, one of the things it\'s loading on startup is the chat window itself...  Theoretically, you could mess with the loading stuffs to force it to load the window, and the networking stuffs to send/receive, but it\'s really not worth it.  So, sorry, this isn\'t really practical.  Besides, I think you can wait a few minutes.  :P

I wonder why everything gets unloaded and then obviously has to be re-loaded, when in fact merely the map itself would need to be loaded.

However, in the end there should be no loading times, zone transitions should be seamless, but that has been discussed on other threads.

I agree, however: if your computer isn\'t high-end, then your chat experience while loading would likely be just like now: nonexistant. :)

What I\'d find more interesting is to have ooc commands, such as using /help or /advice, usable while waiting for the transition to the DR. It wouldn\'t hurt realism, since these are OOC anyway, but might make things more fluent occasionally. Even /tell could be included, since it\'s OOC as well and in the few occasions where it isn\'t, the player will be fully aware of that and refrain from using it, anyway.

If the loading screens aren\'t meant to be interactive then why are server and guild motd\'s displayed with scroll bars that don\'t work?  I can never read it all in those screens if I\'m in lower resolutions.  Why put in scroll buttons if they aren\'t supposed to be used in the future?

Minutes!! How slow is your computer than? Most stuff is loaded in about 10-20 sec...

Myself, I use \'Keep all maps loaded\' (I travel alot), so you only have to load a map once...
