I cannot run the game or setup client.
« on: November 14, 2005, 07:07:54 am »
I have downloaded the install for OS X installed, and it ran fine, tho i could not log in because it said my version was not correct. So i ran the updater, and that seemed to screw everything up, i can\'t run the setup client, or the game client, they both just immediatly crash to desktop. I ran  updater.jar then after reading some posts on here, and that seemed to update alot of things....but when i run the client, it just opens quickly in the dock, then closes, same with the setup client....any help is greatly appreciated, i would like to try this game.

Thanks,
Mike

I\'m still seeing this bug, too, but first I might as well say it before someone else does... could you please post your system specs (hardware, software versions, video card) in the \"User System Specs\" thread in the OS X forums? Also post them here, since they\'re pertinent to your problems.

Also please post a copy of the console log for the crash here. If you\'re not sure what to do, go to the Utilities folder inside your Applications folder and launch Console. Clear it, then try to run the psclient and copy what errors are immediately printed to the Console window.

Sifting through the maze of posts about the 0.3.12 release, I get the impression that it *should* now work for all users except those running OS X 10.3.9 with an nVidia graphics card. Of course it\'s really hard to tell.

I\'m using 10.4.3 with an ATI card, though. So it can\'t be just that. I have the latest updates using Updater.jar (using mirror 2). I even manually tried to set permissions on the application, as per other threads\' recommendations. But it still immediately crashes with the log:

SCF_WARNING: class planeshift.sound.soundmanager (from /Applications/Planeshift3D/pssound.csplugin) has already been registered in the same context `app\' (in /Applications/Planeshift3D/psclient.app/Contents/Resources/pssound.csplugin)

Ported to MacOS/X by Eric Sunshine

[40m[31m[1mERROR: [0mcsInitializer::SetupConfigManager failed!

--

Trying to run pssetup also gives the \"SetupConfigManager\" part of the error too.

This post explains better who can and cant get online better.
Important: Mac Client Status.

This post covers most problems and fixes.Important: READ BEFORE POSTING: A Guide to Running Planeshift on Mac OS X (  1 2 3 ) or if you still cant find your problem please try search or look through other posts, hope this helps.    :))

No, the \"Mac Client Status\" post is unfortunately of no use. The only problem it mentions is with nVIDIA cards under 10.3 or earlier. If you read my post, you\'ll see that I already mention that case, but that my set-up is different and still bugging.

The other thread, \"A Guide to Running Planeshift on Mac OS X\", mentions running the official updater (which I\'ve done), running Updater.jar (which I\'ve done), and chmod on the app files (which I\'ve also done, although it shouldn\'t be necessary after using the java updater). The only other hints I notice in there are fragments of old issues that have since been resolved and edited out.

Essentially, I\'m stumped, unless there\'s a problem with my hardware set-up that hasn\'t been previously documented...

I have gotten the client running! I ran update.jar again (for like the 10th time) and for some reason the client now runs, the setup app unfortunatly still does not run, it just immediatly crashes when launched as before.

don\'t want to annoy, but for statistic

PB G4 1.5GHz
Mac OSX10.4.3
512 Ram
GeForce 5200

I tried this
Downloaded from all three mirrors version .011

only from the first one psupdater seemd to work (didn\'t crash on opening)

then I updated with updater.jar (changing mirror and all file option)

then I tried the normal updater, cause this seems to fix the problem for no connection with the .012 (read in other post)

the updater crashes as soon as it starts

Alright. I\'ve been away for a bit, but now I\'m, back and my guess (strictly a guess) is that some or all of the updater repositories have bad vfs files. If anyone is still having trouble opening psclient (unless you\'re on nVIDIA with 10.3.x), could you please try the following: In Terminal, cd to your Planeshift folder. Type ./psclient.app/Contents/MacOS/psclient and then hit return. If that works, it\'s a vfs problem and I\'ll go scream at Talad. If not, we\'ll look into debugging further.

Yeah, that worked! I could log into the game. Strange, I could have sworn I\'d already tried it and it didn\'t.

Happy screaming :)

Well, I\'ve done some testing and it seems that just mirror 1 is out of date. Everything else is fine. After updating from any other mirror, you should be able to open the app with a double click. If not, you can use PSClientCMD.jar until we can figure out what\'s going wrong.

Yeah, because we\'d already decided that mirror 1 was out of date, I\'ve been careful to ONLY update from mirrors 2 & 4  (mirror 3 was downloading a bad registry and so not working at all... but maybe that\'s fixed now, not sure).

So whatever is causing this is definitely still a problem after updating from the up-to-date mirrors.

So I followed the instructions from various threads to try and get PS running on my 17\" AlBook (10.4.2). BTW, you might want to put a blurb in the main Mac setup instructions about where to get the newer Java stuff that updater.jar requires; I had to search for it in a different thread.

Anyway, after following the instructions and using the updater jar app to do the update, PS will launch but I still can\'t connect to the server. It\'s possible it\'s a firewall issue, but I doubt it; we don\'t generally block any outbound connections.

Running the psclient from the command line produced the following result, some of which looks suspicious to me, so I\'d like to get your take on it:

When did you download Updater.jar? Try getting it again now and then updating. If that doesn\'t work, take a look at the second \"IMPORTANT\" note in the Guide thread. As for getting the correct Java distribution, I mention in the Guide that you can obtain it from Software Update.
