blender-3ds max

before i jump straight in to learning Blender, I wish to know how it works. Is it the same as more pro programs like 3ds max, or will i have to start from scratch with those?

It is a tool that is quite professional and powerful.  Its interface is different than 3dsmax or maya though, but once you get used to it  it is fantastic.  It all depends on what you want really, but for most things it is well beyond what is necessary.  If you learn blender then move to 3dsmax the interfaces will be different, but the theory you learn in 3d modeling will transcend to those programs so you can\'t hurt yourself by learning.

I have no experience with 3ds max, so I can\'t compare those two programs. However I must say: I had no idea, that 3d modeling can be so easy and so enjoyable until I tried to create something in Blender. And don\'t listen to those who say, that learning is hard an long. Start with simple tutorials available at the main Blender site, the rest will come unnoticeably ;)

Having used both, I lean heavily toward 3ds max.  They are as different from each other as any other 3d package differs from another.  You will always have a learning curve when switching packages.  Blender is a decent program though, and is quite powerful provided you know how to use it.  Just do tutorials tutorials tutorials and you\'ll be making sweet 3d stuff in no-time.
