Immediate Crash
« on: November 22, 2005, 11:31:12 pm »
Ok. I\'m gonna start with this. I\'m on a couple month old 1.8GHZ Apple G5 iMac. 128MB ATI card.

Yes, I tried reinstalling (the game, that is) and starting again from scratch.

Doing the direct DL off the site I get the 3.0.11 or whatever, and it\'s incompatible with the only server running, so I ran the update file, even did that thing in the terminal. The update installed and nice and pretty-like, without giving me any crap. It looked clean. But when I went to click on the client, it pops open a white window, then immedietly crashes and I get the OS X \"your app sucks: report, reopen or close?\"

I looked at the sticky on how to get started and couldn\'t really follow it. I did the terminal thing, like I said, and that\'s about all I managed. So, could someone explain to me, in a more simple manner, what possibly could be going wrong? Or how I can find out?

I\'m on OS X 10.4.3, I don\'t think it\'s a \"your computer sucks and needs an update\" issue.

Edit: PSSetup crashes immedietly, too.

Hi there,

There is a java updater (written by ChaOs), updater.jar, that can be found in the \"A Guide to Running Planeshift on Mac OS X\" thread. Try running this one (it helps a lot if you have a Mac). Good luck!

Hmmm. Come to think of it, there may be issues with the new version of the updater.jar. Check the threads below. :(

Ok. So. I downloaded the new Java thing, got the 5.0 all working, ran his updater.jar, and now the client \"works.\" It loads, but can\'t find the server. And yes I checked and it knows to check port 7777.

Also, the PSSetup doesn\'t work. It still crashes.

Am I doing this in the wrong order or something?

So far I did install, the \"updater\", then the Java 5.0, then the Updater.jar, which updated for like 4 seconds then said done.

Did you do this:

 2. Download the Java Updater below. Move the downloaded Updater.jar file into your Planeshift folder. Double-click the application to run it. Check the \"Update all files\" box (only necessary between releases), and, if you\'re on a slow connection, the \"Update individual zip entries.\" Then click \"Start Update,\" sit back and relax; you\'re in for a looong wait.
OS 10.4.x: Updater.jar (23 k)

then this:2a. If you\'re running 10.4.x and Updater.jar doesn\'t work for you, you\'ll need to follow the following steps to change your default JRE version:
Open Java Preferences(.app) (found at /Applications/Utilities/Java/J2SE 5.0/Java Preferences(.app) ). In the General tab, under \"Java Application Runtime Settings\" (not\"Java Applet Runtime Settings\" ), in the little white box on the left, click on\"J2SE 5.0\", drag it above \"J2SE 1.4.2\" and release it. Click the \"Save\" button in the bottom right-hand corner and quit. Then try running Updater.jar.

In simple terms: open Hard disk then open Applications then open Utilities then open Java then open J2SE 5.0 then open Java Preferences by dubble clicking.

server is down at moment, here is link to it.

Howdy,

Unfortunately, the server is down at the moment. I think pssetup isn\'t working for any Mac users. If the updater said everything was up-to-date, then you are probably fully upadted. Hopefully, the game server won\'t be out of comission for too long! :)

ok I didn\'t click \"update all files\". But I did and it told me this:

Unofficial Planeshift Updater.

Copying complete
Compiling list of files to update (this may take a few minutes)...Done

PSSetup still doesn\'t work. Should I start over and this time run only the Updater.jar and not the updater that came with the game?

Pssetup is NOT working for MAC at the moment, there are files missing being worked on, i have posted a tempery fix for this in another post.   :))

 Found it:
A tempery fix if you kept dmg.11 is drag over old pssetup and pssetup.cfg, to your Planeshift folder and replace the new ones, then set permissions.

4. The next step (once the update is finished) is to set the permission bits so that you can run the client. You\'ll need to set the permission bits through Terminal. Open Terminal, located at /Applications/Utilities/Terminal(.app). In the Terminal window, type \"cd \" (note the space \" \" after \"cd\". Then, locate your Planeshift 3D folder in the Finder and drag it into the open Terminal window. Press return.
Then type:
chmod 755 updater.app/Contents/MacOS/updater

Every time you update they will be moved to bin so you will have to retrieve till fix is posted.   :))

r.guppy: you can lock pssetup(.app) to prevent this from happening. Just select it, then go to File->Info and click the \"Locked\" checkbox near the top. The updaters will skip over these files. As this thread is nothing new, iLock. As always, if you have further questions, feel free to PM me.
