Are all randomized names appropriate....
« on: November 25, 2005, 06:51:25 am »
Are all of the randomized names appropriate, because I don\'t think some are.  I made a new character before and said what the heck I\'ll make it randomized.  You know what name I got? I got the name Fagg Ought...thats real appropriate.

In the past it was actually used for entertainment, to see how inappropriate names would the randomizer come up with.

The randomized names are not always appropriate, as we know now.
However, the randomized names are a good start, if you cannot make up a own name for your character. Sometimes you have to generate several names, until you find one that seems appropriate for you and fitting to your character.

Knowledge is power, if you know how to apply it.

Obviously, due to the sheer immense diversity and versability of the English language, the randomiser cannot abide by our constructed Naming Policy 100% of the time. It is also not feasable to block certain words from its output; blocking \'ass\', for example, removes the possibility of any word that may contain this combination of letters, anywhere in the word.

Perhaps in the future, the randomiser can be improved, to reduce the chances of something unacceptable being generated. For now, we rely on the common sense of the player to skip past any names that could be deemed inappropriate for the game. Failing that, the GMs can step in. :)
