Wishing Well
« on: November 27, 2005, 10:58:04 am »
Ok...had a thought about something that might be fun...a wishing well (yes, I did a search and did not find anything). Maybe it could occasionally grant 1 of 3 wish choices or somethiong similar. What characteristics the devs would give to it are open for discussion but it would give ppl something to do, act as a focus point for gatherings and pretty up the landscape a bit.

So you\'d have a large group of people waiting near the well hoping that thier wishes would come true when lets say....?

They could be doing something more productive?

Hydlaa has a fountain, your wishes won\'t come true though. :P. Such a well would be abused a lot.. People constantly making wishes.. With constant wishes, the rewards will eventually out weigh the cost, so it would be like a \"PS WIN CHEAT\".

A wishing well would be nice, IF all aspects of it could be solved.

I just stumbled in this thread,I have the following idea:
perhaps instead of a wishing well perhaps there could be lost in the wilderness (that area that if you miss the road and go over the hills may stuble into some monsters and after a while walking in a somewaht straight line you reach the \"end of the world\" )  could be some sort of a cerimonial offering/sacrifice altar of some sort, a solid stone, crystal, wood or whatever non living material npc that if you give him certain itens like a gobble ear, a rat eye plus a tefusang tooth you would be allowed to try a \"summoning\" spell to aquire the desired item, like a special goblet or just a pice of bread, and  like with any other magic it would depend on the caster hability, energy and luck

perhaps which item would be materialised would depend on the combination of  itens provided as offerend (perhaps even sacrifice of a sentient(player) or pet or another captureable/killeable living creature for the characters more inclined on the dark/evil side)

more powerfull the  itens or monsters to be summoned the more harder, dificult and/or rarer the colection of itens required as an offerend would be, it could perhaps even be included in some quests, a quicker shortcut for some powerfull mages or  the culmination of a quest of aquireing several itens to obtain the desired main iten of the quest.

it would be an increadibly flexible \"device\", after some time just almost every item/monster in the game would have a combination of other itens required to summon it, from a mushroom to a tefusang, from a long sword to leather pants, with the right combination of itens, plus great sorcery prowess, and with some luck you would get from it exactly what you desired, or perhaps some nasty backlash explosion or vengenfull avatar (megaultrauber freakmonster of doom(tm) or somthing totally new or even somewhat abstract, a few special fx and you ared dead) of a unsatisfied deity would smythe you for your insolence if things go wrong(or perhaps just only if it goes REALLY wrong 8o)

I agree that people would waste their \"lives\" away wishing if allowed.

But what if the wishes:

a.  rarely came true and were rarer if wished for by a person repeatedly.  So the more you wish, the less likely it is to happen.

b.  that something unintended might be granted instead.  For example, your strength was cut in half?  This would happen more frequently than a. but still be rare and would increase in chance as the player continued to wish for the same thing.

c.  the money from the well could go to a local PS orphanage.  (is that spelled right?)

Now you would probably still have people wishing to wish (just to see how bad it would get), but the consequences would make the act of wishing a once in a blue moon sort of thing for PC\'s to do.  Just like it is for mall goers.

Who knows, maybe it would create a whole new level of PC\'s to roleplay.  Like the ones gathered around the well begging for tria so they can wish they had their legs back or could get sight back in their left eye.
